Job Title: Lead Statistician

Work Schedule: Standard (Mon-Fri)
Environmental Conditions: Office


Summarized Purpose

The Lead Statistician operates independently, serving as the primary statistical lead for assigned projects. Responsibilities include developing analysis databases, conducting statistical analyses, and generating formatted tables and summaries. The role also involves mentoring junior team members, ensuring project compliance, and driving statistical contributions to clinical study designs.


Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership and Management

  • Lead project teams, conduct meetings, maintain timelines, assess and allocate resources, and prepare budgets.

  • Ensure compliance with departmental SOPs and maintain thorough project documentation.

  • Interact with sponsors to address project needs, deliverables, and statistical insights.

Statistical Analysis and Planning

  • Conduct sample size calculations and review protocols for clinical design appropriateness and statistical soundness.

  • Develop and implement statistical analysis plans, including database and table specifications, guiding the team as necessary.

  • Provide randomization schemes and accompanying documentation.

Programming and Data Management

  • Collaborate with programmers and data management teams to maintain, update, and document databases.

  • Mentor team members on database structures and statistical programming techniques.

  • Program and validate statistical tables with a focus on efficacy endpoints, ensuring accurate documentation.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Review reports, manuscripts, and other project-related documents, contributing to the statistical methods sections.

  • Ensure consistency and completeness in all statistical deliverables.

Infrastructure Support and Mentorship

  • Provide general support to the department by contributing to training materials, teaching sessions, and departmental documents.

  • Mentor junior statisticians, fostering teamwork and professional growth within a multi-disciplinary environment.

Budget and Scope Management

  • Monitor project budgets relative to work scope, proactively communicating potential changes to management.


Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience leading project teams, including conducting team meetings, managing timelines, and preparing budgets.

  • Proven expertise in developing statistical analysis plans and randomization schemes.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in SAS® programming (BASE, STAT, MACRO, GRAPH) and understanding of database structures.

  • Strong statistical principles and practical statistical skills.

Leadership and Mentorship

  • Capable of mentoring team members and promoting effective collaboration within multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in English.
