About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Manager – Surgery Coding to lead operational performance, team management, quality assurance, and client communication within a high-volume medical coding environment. This role will support strategic initiatives, ensure compliance with industry standards, and drive continuous improvement across assigned projects.

As part of a global healthcare organization focused on improving patient outcomes through technology and innovation, you will play a key role in shaping operational excellence, team development, and client success.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage project-level KPIs including productivity, quality, turnaround time (TAT), attendance, and attrition.

  • Ensure quick turnaround and timely decision-making through strong analytical and logical evaluation of data.

  • Lead and oversee personnel management, team performance, and discipline across assigned projects.

  • Provide domain expertise and functional leadership in surgery coding operations.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

  • Lead client communication, manage expectations, and serve as the primary point of contact for clients.

  • Review and analyze periodic operational reports, performance metrics, and process indicators.

  • Evaluate and refine operational practices, workflows, and procedures to enhance efficiency.

  • Support quality improvement initiatives and participate in internal audits to ensure compliance.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes morale, innovation, and teamwork.

  • Provide direction to coding teams, resolve operational challenges, and set clear priorities.

  • Contribute to planning, implementation, and optimization of operational processes in collaboration with senior management.

  • Develop retention strategies and manage attrition effectively.

  • Prepare and manage annual business plans, including resource and operating budgets.

  • Resolve conflicts, negotiate solutions, and manage critical operational situations.

  • Deliver ongoing performance feedback and conduct coaching sessions for team members.

  • Comply with organizational policies, work shifts, relocations, team changes, and operational directives as required.


Required Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Graduate or Postgraduate in Life Sciences, Allied Health, or related fields (BHMS, BAMS, BPT, BDS, Pharmacy, Nursing, etc.).

  • Certification:

    • Valid AAPC or AHIMA certification (CPC, CCS, CPC-H, CCS-P).

  • Experience Required:

    • Minimum 8+ years of medical coding experience, including 2+ years in a Team Lead or Assistant Manager capacity, preferably in surgery coding.

  • Technical Competencies:

    • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.

    • In-depth understanding of healthcare workflows, reimbursement methodologies, and billing regulations.

    • Up-to-date knowledge of coding and billing guidelines, regulatory updates, and compliance requirements.

  • Leadership & Operational Skills:

    • Proven ability to manage large teams and drive them toward operational goals.

    • Strong analytical, coaching, interpersonal, and communication skills.

    • Experience working with SMEs, auditors, and trainers to identify training needs.

    • Ability to identify skill gaps, provide targeted education, and enhance team performance.

    • Proficiency in monitoring operations, attendance management, and daily workflow oversight.

    • Demonstrated success in employee engagement and customer satisfaction initiatives.
