Role Overview

The Assistant Manager – Surgery will oversee personnel, workflow efficiency, performance metrics, and client communication for assigned surgical coding projects. The position requires strong leadership, analytical thinking, and the ability to manage operations while ensuring compliance, quality, and continuous improvement.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage key performance indicators including productivity, quality, TAT, attendance, and attrition.

  • Ensure timely and logical data-driven decision-making for quicker turnaround and operational success.

  • Oversee personnel management, performance monitoring, and disciplinary standards across assigned projects.

  • Provide subject-matter expertise and leadership within the functional area.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

  • Lead client communication and act as the primary point of contact for all client interactions.

  • Review and analyze operational reports, dashboards, and performance metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

  • Evaluate existing operational practices and recommend process enhancements.

  • Support quality initiatives aimed at optimizing processes and ensuring compliance.

  • Participate in internal audits and ensure adherence to all compliance parameters.

  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing work environment that encourages creativity, quality, and teamwork.

  • Provide direction to staff, address issues promptly, and set priority-based goals.

  • Collaborate with senior management in planning, implementing, and evaluating operational strategies and procedural modifications.

  • Develop retention strategies and manage attrition effectively.

  • Prepare annual business plans, including budgeting and operational projections.

  • Lead conflict resolution, anticipate operational challenges, and manage critical situations proactively.

  • Deliver continuous performance feedback through structured formal and informal coaching sessions.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, employment terms, and organizational directives related to work locations, shifts, and operational changes.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate or Postgraduate in Life Sciences or Allied Medicine (BHMS, BAMS, BPT, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, or related fields).

  • Certification: Valid coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CPC-H, CCS, CCS-P).

  • Experience Required:

    • 8+ years of medical coding experience.

    • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Team Lead or in a similar supervisory role.

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.

  • Understanding of organizational workflows, operating procedures, and healthcare coding structures.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of coding and billing compliance requirements and regulatory changes.

  • Proficiency in healthcare reimbursement methodologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate teams to achieve operational goals.

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Ability to engage employees effectively and drive high levels of client satisfaction.

  • Experience working closely with SMEs, auditors, and trainers to address skill gaps and performance outliers.

  • Ability to provide effective one-on-one coaching and manage day-to-day operational oversight.

  • Proven capability to identify performance gaps and deliver targeted educational interventions.
