Role Overview

The Vaccine Account Director (VAD) – Southwest is a senior commercial leadership role responsible for driving vaccine portfolio performance across Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana.

This position leads and coaches a team of Vaccine Account Managers (VAMs) while directly managing large, complex healthcare delivery networks, including health systems, State CDC awardees, major public health departments, and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).

The VAD operates as both strategic leader and player-coach, accountable for regional performance, strategic account planning, executive-level engagement, and cross-functional collaboration to expand vaccine access and improve immunization outcomes.

Territory Coverage

Southwest Region including but not limited to:
Texas (Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, El Paso, Lubbock)
New Mexico (Albuquerque)
Louisiana (New Orleans)

This is a field-based role with travel requirements determined by customer geography.

Key Responsibilities

Regional Vaccine Performance Leadership

  • Deliver regional vaccine sales targets and immunization goals across priority accounts

  • Align regional strategy with public health initiatives and state immunization programs

  • Drive portfolio performance including adolescent, adult, and seasonal vaccine coverage

  • Conduct business reviews with Vaccine Sales Directors and cross-functional leaders

  • Maintain deep knowledge of customer financial models, procurement processes, and formulary pathways

Strategic Account Management

  • Lead development and execution of Strategic Business Plans (SBPs) for complex health systems

  • Engage C-suite and population health decision-makers to influence vaccine protocols and adoption

  • Identify opportunities for above-brand portfolio growth across integrated delivery networks

  • Ensure compliant execution aligned with healthcare regulations and corporate standards

People Leadership & Coaching

  • Lead, coach, and develop Vaccine Account Managers to achieve performance objectives

  • Define and monitor annual goals and personal development plans

  • Conduct structured field visits and performance reviews with documented coaching feedback

  • Promote best-practice sharing across regional and national VAD teams

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with National Accounts, Marketing, Contracting, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Government Affairs

  • Support VAMs in quarterbacking account strategy execution

  • Address payer, reimbursement, and operational challenges impacting vaccine uptake

  • Escalate complex customer issues and develop compliant solutions

Data-Driven Strategy & KPI Management

  • Monitor regional KPIs including sales quotas, immunization rates, contract retention, market share, and protocol implementation

  • Utilize analytics to guide customer engagement strategies (referral trends, stocking behavior, reimbursement patterns)

  • Conduct routine performance assessments to identify growth opportunities

  • Ensure achievement of customer-specific engagement metrics including executive access and stakeholder mapping

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) – Required

  • MBA or Advanced Degree – Preferred

Experience Required

  • Minimum 7 years of pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry experience

  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including vaccine sales teams

  • Strong account management experience within large health systems

  • Experience engaging C-suite executives and influencing formulary/P&T decision-making

  • 2+ years of vaccines experience preferred

  • Experience with reimbursement landscapes including Medicare Part B/D, VFC program, and private payer systems preferred
