Role Summary:

The VP, US Field Medical Lead will lead the US Field Medical (FM) Director and Field Medical Outcomes (FMO) organization across Specialty Care (SC) and Internal Medicine (IM) therapeutic areas. This individual will collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that ensure alignment with US Brand Medical Affairs and maximize the impact of Field Medical teams. The role involves oversight of field-based medical professionals, fostering strategic collaborations, and ensuring that all activities are compliant with Pfizer’s internal guidelines, industry regulations, and business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Strategic Direction:

    • Lead the US Field Medical team across all SC and IM therapeutic areas.
    • Develop and implement the strategic vision for the FM organization, ensuring alignment with Pfizer’s broader medical and business objectives.
    • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., US Brand Medical, Global Medical Affairs, Research & Development) to ensure the FM team’s activities address medical needs and support the lifecycle of Pfizer’s portfolio of medicines.
  2. Team and People Management:

    • Lead, manage, and coach the Field Medical Leaders across the US, ensuring team performance and development.
    • Build and retain talent, ensuring alignment with Pfizer’s values of professionalism and integrity.
    • Manage performance appraisals, compensation, and colleague development.
    • Foster a high-performance culture within the team.
  3. Operational Management and Compliance:

    • Oversee the operational aspects of the FM organization, including budget management, resource allocation, and ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines, policies, and regulations.
    • Maintain and implement strategic plans for engaging medical customers and promoting positive medical impact.
    • Monitor and adapt to changes in FDA regulations, digital technologies, and advancements in medical communications.
  4. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Act as a liaison between Field Medical, Global Medical Affairs, Commercial Teams, and other internal stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration.
    • Ensure seamless communication between field-based teams and headquarters, promoting a positive medical customer experience and strategic insights.
    • Lead the development of executive reports and presentations for senior management on field-based activities and outcomes.
  5. Budget and Resource Management:

    • Oversee and manage the FM team budget, making recommendations for resource allocation and major expenditures.
    • Track and assess fiscal year spending, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and medical activities.
  6. Cross-functional Engagement:

    • Work closely with commercial, legal, compliance, and other departments to ensure all activities are compliant with regulations and corporate guidelines.
    • Participate in relevant cross-functional committees and collaborate with Pfizer’s field-based medical governance.
  7. External Engagement:

    • Interact with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and investigators as needed for clinical and research activities.
    • Actively contribute to key customer interactions, educational activities, and scientific congress participation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • M.D., Ph.D., or Pharm.D. required.
  • MD: 9+ years of healthcare experience, Pharm.D./Ph.D.: 15+ years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with expertise in SC and IM therapeutic areas preferred.
  • Proven field-based medical leadership experience.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams and a matrix environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a geographically dispersed team.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing and prioritizing resources, programs, and multiple projects.

Non-Standard Work Schedule, Travel or Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to travel nationally within the US as needed (up to 40%).
  • Flexibility to travel for "ride days," leadership meetings, and customer interactions.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Base Salary: $292,700.00 - $487,800.00 (depending on location).
  • Eligible for Pfizer's Global Performance Plan, with a bonus target of 35% of the base salary.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health coverage, 401(k) with Pfizer Matching Contributions, paid vacation, and more.
