Role Overview:

The Tactical Planner (TP) plays a crucial role in ensuring supply readiness, optimal resource utilization, and capacity planning while maintaining optimal inventory levels. This position is responsible for translating demand into a mid-to-long-term production strategy for internal and external clinical packaging at Global Clinical Supply (GCS).

The Tactical Planner has end-to-end operational responsibility for assigned activities and is actively involved in cross-functional teams, projects, and local network activities.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning & Supply Management:

  • Develop and implement the mid-to-long-term production strategy at the portfolio level.
  • Enable strategic decisions on packaging locations and distribution models for clinical studies.
  • Oversee GCS portfolio planning across multiple packaging locations.
  • Translate Supply Chain Management (SCM) plans into production plans over an 18-month rolling forecast horizon.
  • Ensure operational feasibility of the short-term production plan in collaboration with relevant GCS roles.

Production & Capacity Planning:

  • Implement Master Production Scheduling (MPS), including material master data management.
  • Develop Rough Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP) for headcount and equipment forecasting.
  • Contribute to Clinical Supply & Operations Planning (CS&OP), ensuring alignment with the monthly planning cycle.
  • Execute CFG-PP planning to ensure all independent demand is reflected in SAP.
  • Collaborate with Production Master Data teams to generate dependent demand for Drug Product (DP), Primary Packaging (PP), and packaging materials.
  • Identify and mitigate potential capacity constraints and technical risks, ensuring timely escalation when necessary.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement:

  • Work closely with GCS teams to align packaging design, material availability, and capacity planning.
  • Communicate key issues and critical topics to management and project teams in a timely manner.
  • Analyze data, interpret results, and report findings to teams and leadership.
  • Provide coaching, training, and mentorship to team members, supporting both junior and senior associates.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in tactical planning and supply chain processes.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

Education & Skills:

  • Degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Presentation and leadership skills with the ability to mentor others.

Experience Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in the chemical/pharmaceutical industry or 3+ years in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency in supply chain planning, production planning, and materials management.
  • Knowledge of the drug development process and regulatory standards (e.g., GMP, HSE).
  • Expertise in supply chain tools such as MRP (Material Requirements Planning), WMS (Warehouse Management Systems), and Master Data Management.
