Role Overview

The Strategic Initiatives Project Manager is responsible for leading high-impact, enterprise-level initiatives that drive measurable business value across Syneos Health. This role manages complex, cross-functional projects including post-merger integrations, strategic partnerships, and large-scale business transformation programs.

The position requires strong project governance expertise, stakeholder management skills, and the ability to execute initiatives aligned with enterprise strategy while ensuring accountability, transparency, and sustainable outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

Project & Program Leadership

  • Lead matrixed, cross-functional project teams, ensuring clarity of roles, responsibilities, and accountability in line with established governance frameworks.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project charters, integrated project plans, resource plans, risk and issue logs, and financial forecasts.

  • Manage project scope, timelines, costs, and quality to ensure delivery of agreed-upon objectives and business outcomes.

Governance, Risk & Financial Management

  • Track project milestones, KPIs, and deliverables, ensuring progress is measured and reported accurately.

  • Identify, assess, and escalate risks and issues using structured decision-making and mitigation frameworks.

  • Validate project financials, manage resource allocations, and reconcile project expenditures against forecasts.

Stakeholder & Change Management

  • Drive change management and business readiness activities to support adoption and sustainability of new processes, systems, or organizational structures.

  • Publish regular project status updates and maintain transparent communication with executive sponsors, steering committees, and key stakeholders.

  • Chair project meetings to review progress, address challenges, and recognize team contributions.

Continuous Improvement & Strategy Alignment

  • Represent assigned initiatives in enterprise governance forums and cross-departmental meetings.

  • Support operational efficiency through process mapping and process improvement initiatives.

  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to the evolution of project delivery methodologies and best practices.


Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Business, Management, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.

  • Equivalent education combined with relevant professional experience may be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in project management, including enterprise or strategic initiatives.

  • Proven experience managing cross-functional teams in a matrixed organizational environment.

  • Experience supporting business transformation, M&A integration, or large-scale strategic programs is highly desirable.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and governance frameworks.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage senior and executive leaders.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach, guide, and influence teams to meet deadlines while delivering high-quality outcomes.

  • High level of adaptability, initiative, and problem-solving capability in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with project and timeline management tools; willingness to adopt new technologies.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport and corporate credit card.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally (up to 25%), as required by business needs.
