Position Overview

AstraZeneca is seeking a highly experienced Senior Medical Advisor (CVRM) to provide strategic medical leadership and drive scientific excellence within the Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolic (CVRM) therapy area. This role is instrumental in shaping medical strategy, strengthening healthcare ecosystems, enabling evidence-based practice transformation, and ensuring alignment with AstraZeneca’s broader business and portfolio goals.

The Senior Medical Advisor functions as the therapeutic area medical expert, offering strategic direction, scientific insights, and leadership across Medical Affairs, commercial teams, and cross-functional stakeholders. This position is central to driving impactful patient-focused initiatives, enhancing access to care, and supporting the adoption of innovative CVRM therapies.


Key Responsibilities

Scientific and Medical Leadership

  • Maintain deep clinical and scientific expertise in CVRM disease areas, AstraZeneca therapies, emerging treatments, and competitive landscape.

  • Act as the subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring scientific accuracy and high-quality medical guidance.

  • Lead the development and execution of the Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP), ensuring alignment with Medical Affairs strategy.

  • Provide scientific support, training, and mentoring to cross-functional teams to strengthen therapeutic area knowledge.

Medical Strategy and Clinical Contribution

  • Drive prioritization of medical activities to support strategic product and portfolio objectives.

  • Identify opportunities for scalable and sustainable clinical practice transformation initiatives aimed at improving patient access and outcomes.

  • Leverage digital technologies, data dashboards, and real-world insights to inform decision-making, internal strategy planning, and external engagements.

  • Support development of educational tools, medical content, and evidence-generation activities aligned with the medical plan.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage with healthcare professionals, scientific experts, policy makers, patient advocacy groups, and other ecosystem stakeholders.

  • Ensure balanced engagement across traditional and non-traditional stakeholders, aligned with the integrated engagement plan.

  • Communicate relevant medical and scientific insights internally to support brand strategy and cross-functional decisions.

Medical Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure all medical activities adhere to AstraZeneca standards, regulatory requirements, and ethical guidelines.

  • Review and approve scientific and medical materials, including complex data, publications, and congress submissions.

  • Provide medical governance oversight for branding and promotional activities to ensure scientific accuracy.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, Corporate Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, and Compliance teams.

  • Lead and contribute to major cross-functional projects including Real-World Evidence (RWE), pre-launch and post-launch initiatives, and market access programs.


Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Medical degree (MBBS or MD preferred) with specialization or equivalent experience in CVRM or related therapeutic areas.

  • Minimum 8–12 years of experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

  • Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical landscape, medical governance, and healthcare system dynamics.

  • Proven ability to lead medical strategy, manage complex projects, and engage diverse stakeholders.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong analytical and organizational capabilities.

  • Ability to work effectively in highly collaborative, cross-functional environments.
