Job Title: Medical Advisor


Primary Objective:

The Medical Advisor is responsible for developing and maintaining in-depth scientific knowledge of assigned products and therapeutic areas. This role involves providing expert medical/scientific advice, supporting clinical research activities, and engaging with healthcare professionals, KOLs, and academic centers. The Medical Advisor also plays a key role in the development of promotional materials, ensuring compliance with regulations, and contributing to marketing strategies and commercial initiatives.


Job Responsibilities:

  1. Scientific and Medical Expertise:

    • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of assigned products and therapeutic areas through continuous education, participation in relevant congresses, seminars, and self-study of the latest scientific literature.
    • Provide expert medical and scientific advice on assigned products, including answering scientific/technical queries and contributing to the development of medical information packs and clinical expert reviews.
  2. Relationship Building:

    • Establish and maintain professional and credible relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and academic centers, facilitating scientific collaboration and knowledge sharing.
    • Participate in scientific congresses, advisory boards, round-table meetings, and discussion forums.
  3. Scientific Presentations and Medical Education:

    • Deliver high-quality scientific presentations and medical education programs to healthcare professionals, both individually and in groups.
    • Develop and deliver training materials to sales teams and other internal departments to ensure accurate and up-to-date information on products and therapeutic areas.
  4. Clinical Research Activities:

    • Design and implement clinical research projects, such as Phase IV studies, post-marketing surveillance, registry/database projects, and epidemiological surveys, within defined budgets and timelines.
    • Provide oversight for Investigator-Initiated Studies (IIS) and support the affiliate Clinical Research Department in the management of clinical studies, including protocol reviews and site feasibility assessments.
  5. Regulatory and Promotional Compliance:

    • Review and approve promotional materials to ensure all medical/scientific content is accurate and fully compliant with Abbott’s internal policies and national regulations.
    • Ensure that all activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and Abbott’s policies and procedures.
  6. Market Intelligence and Strategic Input:

    • Monitor the competitive landscape for trends in diagnosis, treatments, and competitor strategies, sharing relevant insights within the company.
    • Provide medical/scientific input into marketing strategies and commercial initiatives to ensure alignment with clinical and scientific data.

    • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

    • Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), academic centers, healthcare professionals, and external regulatory bodies.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Medical or Scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Experience:

    • Proven experience in medical affairs, clinical research, or related scientific roles.
    • Familiarity with clinical trial design, post-marketing surveillance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Skills:

    • Strong scientific knowledge and expertise in assigned therapeutic area(s).
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships with healthcare professionals and KOLs.
    • Ability to navigate complex regulatory and compliance environments.
