Position: Quality Assurance Supervisor

Job Overview

Rip Van is seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Supervisor to lead and elevate the quality function across its product lines. This role ensures adherence to stringent quality standards and industry regulations, driving continuous improvement and collaboration with co-manufacturers, suppliers, and internal teams.


Key Responsibilities

Quality Management & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with FDA, FSMA, HACCP, GFSI, and other food safety regulations.
  • Conduct audits of co-manufacturers, suppliers, and 3PLs to verify adherence to quality standards.
  • Oversee third-party certifications (Non-GMO, Gluten-Free, Kosher).
  • Monitor finished goods to ensure they meet product specifications.

Continuous Improvement & Reporting:

  • Promote a culture of quality among co-manufacturers and internal teams.
  • Identify trends and recommend improvements based on consumer complaints and performance data.
  • Develop and present monthly quality reports and improvement suggestions to senior leadership.
  • Lead investigations into quality issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Supplier & Co-Manufacturer Collaboration:

  • Develop and utilize a Quality Scorecard to measure supplier and co-manufacturer performance.
  • Conduct risk assessments for co-manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Review food safety documentation during onboarding of new suppliers and identify potential risks.

Technical Support:

  • Support the NPD team during product development with technical guidance.
  • Assist Sales and Customer Service teams with inquiries and quality/food safety issues.
  • Conduct product shelf-life studies and oversee recall and crisis management policies.

Regulatory Liaison:

  • Serve as the primary liaison with the FDA and other regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Safety, or Quality Management (advanced technical degree preferred).

Experience:

  • 10–15 years in the food and beverage industry.
  • 5–10 years as Head of Quality in a food/beverage manufacturing facility.
  • 5–10 years in a corporate Quality Assurance role with process implementation and audit experience.

Skills & Certifications:

  • Strong knowledge of FDA, FSVP, GMP, FSMA, HACCP, and GFSI regulations.
  • Experience with Non-GMO Project Verification.
  • FSPCA PCQI and FSVP certifications required.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams.
  • Drive for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 30%).
