Position Summary

The Regional Medical Director, West T1D Immunology oversees the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team in the western US region. This role ensures tactical execution of the autoimmune T1D Immunology engagement plan, leads regional medical strategy, and supports team development and scientific leadership.


Key Responsibilities

1. Medical Strategy, Execution & Performance

  • Co-develop U.S. Country Medical Plans with cross-functional teams.

  • Translate strategic priorities into regional goals and tactical plans.

  • Supervise MSL team activities including:

    • KOL management

    • Territory execution

    • Internal collaborations

  • Monitor field medical execution using scientific engagement tools.

  • Balance internal vs. external activities and implement omnichannel engagement strategies.

  • Support innovative initiatives and pipeline/clinical study priorities.

2. Scientific Leadership & Insight Generation

  • Lead insight collection, analysis, and communication across field teams.

  • Ensure strategic use of insights to inform medical and business decisions.

  • Monitor MSL impact in scientific engagements and adjust strategies accordingly.

3. Team Coaching & Development

  • Conduct regular coaching around four core MSL accountability areas:

    1. Scientific Engagement

    2. Insight Generation

    3. Support for Data Generation

    4. Internal Collaboration

  • Guide team and individual development plans including leadership skills and disease-specific expertise.

  • Track and report progress on team objectives and provide course correction as needed.

  • Lead MSL talent development, including recruitment, retention, and career pathway planning.

4. Compliance & Operational Excellence

  • Ensure MSLs complete and adhere to corporate and regulatory compliance training.

  • Promote ethical practices and competitive intelligence sharing.

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with relevant healthcare regulations and codes of practice.


Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Doctorate-level degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) or equivalent in medical/pharmaceutical/scientific discipline (required)

  • Postgraduate degrees such as MBA or Master’s (preferred but not required)

Experience

  • 5+ years of industry experience, including field-based roles (required)

  • Strong background in Type 1 Diabetes and/or Immunology (preferred)

  • Experience in customer-facing and cross-functional medical roles

  • Proven project management and strategic planning capabilities

  • Familiarity with healthcare systems, regulatory landscape, and payer environment in the U.S.

  • Experience with digital and omnichannel engagement tools
