Role Summary

The Regional Medical Advisor (RMA) is a field-based scientific expert responsible for executing Medical Affairs Plans for pre-launch and/or newly launched products/indications in the assigned therapeutic area. The RMA shapes clinical practice through scientific engagements and partnerships with traditional (specialists, primary care physicians) and non-traditional (policy makers, PAGs, government) stakeholders to drive improved patient outcomes and ensure the safe and effective use of AstraZeneca medicines.


Key Responsibilities

Scientific Expertise

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in disease management, AstraZeneca products, emerging therapies, and competitive landscape.

  • Contribute to and lead the development of the Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP).

  • Act as a subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide training and mentorship within the therapeutic area.

Scientific Exchange

  • Engage in peer-to-peer discussions with key customers using appropriate channels.

  • Respond to unsolicited inquiries with balanced clinical/scientific information.

  • Deliver scientific presentations internally and externally.

  • Organize and facilitate scientific events: MSL events, symposiums, advisory boards, “Meet the Professor” sessions, etc.

  • Collaborate with KEEs on study proposals and publications of interest.

Customer Insights

  • Identify, gather, analyze, and report external scientific and medical insights.

  • Translate customer perspectives into actionable items for internal stakeholders.

  • Partner with stakeholders to identify gaps in the patient experience journey for inclusion in medical/product strategies.

Strategic Relationships

  • Develop peer-level relationships with healthcare professionals and scientific experts.

  • Identify investigators for pre-clinical, clinical, and post-marketing studies.

  • Support data generation and review investigator-sponsored studies.

  • Expand contact networks to include non-traditional KEEs for practice change initiatives.

  • Build strategic partnerships to address patient healthcare access gaps.

Other Responsibilities

  • Leverage digital tools and innovative technologies for scientific exchange and patient-centric solutions.

  • Maintain strong understanding of pharmacovigilance, GxP principles, GCP, clinical studies, and AE reporting.

  • Adhere to Ethical Interactions Policy, internal SOPs, local regulations, and AstraZeneca Global Field Medical Standards.


Qualifications & Skills

Essential

  • Master’s or scientific degree in relevant discipline.

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong project management and presentation skills.

  • High-level analytical and conceptual thinking.

  • Ability to communicate across internal/external stakeholders using various channels.

Desirable

  • Doctoral degree (M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D.) in scientific discipline.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical industry, regulatory, clinical/preclinical research.

  • Knowledge of disease states and treatment options in therapeutic area.

  • Experience in drug discovery, development, and KEE interactions.
