Job Title: Medical Coding Trainer (In-Patient Specialty)

Department: Medical Coding

Reporting To: Team Lead / Operations Manager


Role Description Overview:

The Medical Coding Trainer is responsible for training new joiners on medical coding concepts, with a focus on the In-Patient specialty. This role requires monitoring and assessing the productivity and quality of trainees, providing structured feedback, and ensuring adherence to both internal and client-specific coding standards. The trainer will also educate trainees on the latest coding updates and guidelines, ensuring they are well-prepared for their roles in medical coding.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Training and Development:

    • Effectively train new joiners on medical coding concepts, specifically In-Patient coding.

    • Develop and deliver training content based on client specifications and industry standards.

    • Educate trainees on the latest coding updates, guidelines, and client-specific requirements.

  2. Monitoring and Feedback:

    • Track and monitor the productivity and quality output of trainees according to the OJT (on-the-job training) glide path and ramp-up targets.

    • Provide continuous and structured feedback to trainees, ensuring continuous improvement.

    • Conduct one-on-one sessions with trainees to address repeated errors and areas requiring improvement.

  3. Support and Collaboration:

    • Provide feedback on trainees’ productivity and quality to Team Leads, ensuring clear communication on progress.

    • Collaborate with Team Leads to facilitate early confirmation of trainees.

    • Pass on QC (Quality Control) feedback to trainees in an effective and constructive manner.

  4. Adherence to Quality Standards:

    • Ensure that the training process adheres to the organization's quality standards and that trainees meet client-specific coding targets.

    • Work with the quality assurance team to ensure accuracy, productivity, and quality expectations are met by trainees.


Desired Profile:

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Medical Coding, with a focus on In-Patient coding.

  • Skills and Competencies:

    • Proven experience in coaching and training new joiners on medical coding concepts and processes.

    • Strong knowledge of In-Patient coding guidelines and standards.

    • Ability to track and monitor trainee performance, providing constructive feedback.

    • In-depth understanding of client-specific coding requirements and industry updates.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Certifications:

    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or AHIMA certification required.

  • Education:

    • Any graduate (preferably healthcare or medical-related qualification).
