Employment Type: Part-Time (20 hours/week)
Compensation: $56 to $67.25 per hour (Estimated pay)
Expected Starting Salary Range: $52.66 - $67.30 per hour


Job Description:

The Pharmacist for Critical Care and OR is responsible for managing all aspects of the medication use process, including procurement, prescribing, compounding, dispensing, storage, administration, and monitoring of medications. The role involves collaboration with physicians and clinicians to provide optimal treatments for patients. Pharmacists will also advise on the best medication therapies, maintain patient histories, ensure proper storage of medications, and stay updated on pharmacy regulations, treatments, and research. Additionally, pharmacists will meet educational needs for patients, healthcare teams, students, and residents while ensuring adherence to regulatory and fiscal requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Medication Orders:

    • Evaluate medication orders based on patient weight, allergy history, and drug compatibility.
    • Record orders accurately and resolve any issues in a timely manner by contacting physicians or nurses as needed.
    • Ensure all medication orders are ready for delivery without errors.
  • Intravenous Preparations:

    • Train other pharmacists and technicians in unit dose and IV areas.
    • Prepare IV preparations such as TPN, antibiotics, chemotherapy, and respiratory therapy syringes according to departmental guidelines.
    • Check for errors and ensure proper delivery in accordance with policy.
  • Chemotherapy Orders:

    • Process chemotherapy orders, ensuring dosages and calculations are checked by two pharmacists.
    • Follow safety precautions, such as wearing appropriate protective gear and preparing chemotherapy in the designated hood.
  • Serve as a Resource:

    • Use appropriate references to answer medication-related questions (e.g., drug compatibilities, dosage form selection).
    • Provide recommendations on timing for drawing serum concentrations for medications.
    • Handle conflict situations professionally and assist in problem-solving when needed.
    • Function in any area of the central pharmacy as required and take administrative initiative when supervisors are unavailable.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD Degree
  • Pharmacist License in the state of Ohio, or the ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
