Pharmacist Position at Bureau of Prisons - Join Our Team in Ensuring Public Safety and Healthcare Excellence

Join the Bureau of Prisons as a Pharmacist and help foster a secure and humane environment while ensuring public safety. In this role, you will be responsible for the medication delivery system, ensuring the integrity of all medications, and overseeing proper storage. You will actively participate in quality assurance activities, including audits, policy implementation, and drug utilization evaluations to maintain effective medication management and high-quality patient care.

As a pharmacist, you will work closely with patients and healthcare providers to assess, monitor, and adjust medication regimens to ensure optimal drug therapy outcomes. You will also play a key role in maintaining the institution's security, as correctional responsibilities take precedence over all other duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage medication delivery and ensure the proper storage of all drugs.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including policy audits and drug utilization evaluations.
  • Maintain records related to drug purchases, receipts, and dispositions.
  • Provide patient-centered, outcome-oriented pharmaceutical care.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to promote health, prevent disease, and manage medication use.
  • Ensure institutional security as part of the correctional team.

Conditions of Employment:

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Selective Service Registration for male applicants.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment tests, including drug testing, physical examination, and background check.
  • Ability to distinguish basic colors is required.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or equivalent.
  • Active, unrestricted State or U.S. Territory Pharmacist License.
  • Applicants must provide proof of licensure at the time of application.
  • Ability to work in a correctional environment, ensuring safety and security protocols are followed.

Additional Information:

  • This position is included in the bargaining unit.
  • Maximum age for initial appointment is 39, unless eligible for prior law enforcement coverage.
  • Successful candidates will complete a three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia.
