Tactical Planner (TP)

Summary

The Tactical Planner (TP) ensures supply readiness and optimizes resource and capacity usage while maintaining optimal inventory levels. The TP translates demand into production strategy and planning at a portfolio level, focusing on mid-to-long-term views for internal and external packaging at GCS. This role carries operational end-to-end responsibility for assigned activities, leading and managing projects and local network activities while participating in cross-functional teams.


About the Role

Major Accountabilities

  • Enable strategic decision-making at the study level regarding packaging locations and distribution models.
  • Manage mid-to-long-term planning and oversee supply review at an aggregated portfolio level.
  • Supervise the entire GCS portfolio planning across all packaging locations.
  • Translate supply plans from SCM into production plans on an 18-month rolling forecast horizon.
  • Ensure operational feasibility of production plans in the short term, aligning with relevant GCS roles.
  • Implement master production scheduling, manage relevant material master data, and oversee related change processes.
  • Develop Rough Cut Capacity Resources (RCCR) planning for headcount and equipment.
  • Contribute to the CS&OP process, ensuring adherence to the monthly planning cycle.
  • Cover CFG-PP planning and ensure all independent demand is reflected in SAP.
  • Collaborate with responsible teams to generate dependent demand at DP/PP and packaging material levels.
  • Identify and mitigate potential capacity and technical risks, with appropriate escalation and communication.
  • Work with GCS teams to harmonize packaging design and ensure material and capacity availability.
  • Proactively communicate key issues and critical topics to management and project teams.
  • Interpret results, evaluate data, draw conclusions, and report findings to teams and leadership.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and technical training as a subject matter expert.
  • Act as a mentor for junior and senior associates.

Ideal Background

Education

  • Degree in Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field.

Languages

  • Fluent in English.

Experience & Professional Requirements

  1. Minimum 5+ years of practical experience in the chemical/pharmaceutical industry or 3+ years in a related field of expertise.
  2. Strong expertise in supply planning and related areas.
  3. Knowledge of the drug development process.
  4. Basic project management, organization, and planning skills.
  5. Understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., GMP, HSE) and Novartis standards.
  6. Strong problem-solving and idea generation skills.
  7. Effective presentation skills.
  8. Fundamental leadership skills.
  9. Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
