Job Description

1. MSL Strategic Synergy and Oversight:

  • Guide MSLs in developing regional medical plans based on competitor intelligence, academic needs, market conditions, and provincial policies to address unmet regional needs and integrate these into the national MSL strategy.
  • Review MSLs’ budget proposals and collaborate with the TA head to balance resource allocation across regions.
  • Ensure that MSLs’ KOL engagement plans and lists are accurately executed.
  • Co-visit with MSLs to provide coaching, feedback, and support in building and maintaining long-term scientific collaborations with KOLs in relevant therapeutic areas.
  • Review KOL visit reports submitted by MSLs and ensure proper documentation of co-visit reports and insights using systems like VEEVA CRM and MEDIsource.
  • Lead MSLs in sharing medical insights from KOLs with internal stakeholders consistently and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate cross-regional medical projects, providing overall management and assigning tasks.
  • Support MSLs in identifying KOL research capabilities and areas of interest, assessing the feasibility of Investigator-Initiated Sponsored Studies (IISR) that align with Takeda’s medical strategy. Escalate for Medical Affairs review if needed.
  • Assist MSLs in collaborating with internal stakeholders, including other medical affairs functions, commercial teams (e.g., Sales, Marketing), SFE (training), Compliance, Clinical Development, and Market Access, to achieve the medical plan’s objectives.
  • Ensure the compliance of the MSL team and that all regional medical activities deliver fair and balanced information about Takeda products, therapeutic options, and disease states.

2. People Management:

  • Identify gaps between regional medical needs and available human resources, collaborating with the TA Head to allocate appropriate MSL resources with justified rationale.
  • Recruit qualified candidates who meet Takeda Medical's competency model to build and maintain a strong MSL team, while minimizing turnover rates.
  • Guide and support new MSLs during their probation period to ensure a smooth onboarding process.
  • Lead and support the MSL team to achieve success through clear KPI setting, consultation on specific medical projects, periodic performance reviews, and feedback.
  • Help MSLs develop and execute Individual Development Plans (IDP) based on Takeda Medical’s competency model, providing feedback and coaching to enhance their capabilities and career development.
  • Collaborate with the medical excellence function to optimize MSL working processes and ensure consistency with relevant SOPs and policies.
  • Work with the TA head to establish a platform for MSLs to exchange information, fostering a positive, compliant culture within the TA medical team.

3. Other Responsibilities:

  • Act as an MSL in specific regions as business needs require.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned, including working in other therapeutic areas as directed by the line manager.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: A Master’s degree in Medicine or Pharmacy is required.

  • Experience:

    • At least 3 years of medical affairs experience in a pharmaceutical company, or at least 1 year of experience in people management in a pharmaceutical company.
    • For senior MSL managers, at least 3 years of people management experience in medical affairs, with a proven track record of success in the pharmaceutical industry, is required.
    • Clinical practice experience in relevant therapeutic areas is preferred.
  • Professional Knowledge and Skills:

    • Strong general knowledge of relevant therapeutic areas.
    • Fundamental understanding of clinical study methodology.
    • Excellent customer focus, communication, and influencing skills capable of impacting at a national level.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership abilities to lead and motivate a team of MSLs, while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
    • Ability to build and maintain a robust network of scientific relationships with stakeholders and achieve trusted advisor status with healthcare professionals (HCPs).
    • Strong project management skills to handle complex tasks within set timelines and milestones.
    • Adaptable and innovative, able to manage and resolve issues in a complex and evolving environment from a medical perspective.
    • Awareness of and adherence to Takeda’s company credo and compliance requirements.
    • Fluent in both written and spoken business and academic English.

Travel Requirements:

  • This role is a hybrid, with responsibilities both in the office and in the field. The successful candidate will also be expected to travel during holidays if required by business needs.
