🧭 Position Overview

The Manager of Safety Operations leads and manages the Safety staff responsible for Safety Operations processing, ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate standards. The role contributes to global initiatives, collaborates with Safety Management, and supports achievement of both local and global deliverables and metrics.


⚙️ Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Staff Management

  • Hold bi-monthly meetings with direct reports covering project status, timelines, financials, risks, initiatives, team utilization, training, SOP adherence, and career objectives.

  • Develop and implement plans to measure and improve employee engagement, ensuring global consistency.

  • Mentor and coach team members, providing motivation, guidance, and feedback.

  • Serve as designated substitute or ensure coverage during direct report absences or turnover.

Project & Operational Management

  • Collaborate with project leads to manage work schedules, staffing needs, technology requirements, and peak workloads.

  • Communicate leadership messages to direct reports and escalate issues or opportunities to senior management.

  • Participate in Bid Defenses, Kick-Off Meetings, RFIs, RFPs, and budgets as required.

  • Support internal and external audits and inspections; ensure staff are trained and prepared.

Risk & Financial Oversight

  • Understand and monitor basic project finances, including Estimate at Completion (EAC), forecasting, burn-rate monitoring, and out-of-scope opportunities (OOS).

  • Evaluate risks proactively, implement mitigation strategies, and discuss solutions with stakeholders.

  • Drive business and financial results through proactive communication and operational excellence.


🎓 Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in life sciences, scientific, or healthcare discipline (required).

  • Experience: Up to 7 years of relevant experience, including up to 4 years in Pharmacovigilance (PV) and up to 3 years in line management. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

  • Safety Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Safety service lines with willingness to expand cross-functional skills.

  • Leadership: Strong staff management, motivational, coaching, and influencing skills.

  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects, calculate metrics, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; effective in a matrix service delivery environment.

  • Decision-Making: Sound judgment, problem-solving, and proactive facilitation.

  • Collaboration: Establish and maintain effective relationships with coworkers, managers, and clients.

  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of project finance, forecasting, and revenue opportunities.

  • Flexibility: Ability to operate in shifts and adapt to evolving business needs.

  • Base Pay Range (Annualized): $85,300 – $213,100
