Position Overview

Title: Graduate Intern – R&D Portfolio Strategy & Execution Team (PSET)
Department: R&D Strategy & Operations (RDSO)
Function: R&D Strategy & Performance Excellence (SPx)
Duration: ~12 Weeks (Project-Based + Experiential Learning)

As a Graduate Intern, you’ll be a key contributor to Amgen’s R&D Portfolio Strategy & Execution Team (PSET), supporting portfolio and project management, collaborations, outreach, and resource optimization across Amgen’s global research operations.

Your role will involve high collaboration across multiple functions, including Research & Development, Chief Medical Office, and other strategic groups.


Key Focus Areas

1. Research Portfolio Management

  • Support research portfolio operations, governance processes, and interdepartmental collaboration.

  • Contribute to project management, portfolio metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Assist in AI integration and digital optimization of R&D portfolio systems.

2. Research Collaborations & Scientific Outreach

  • Provide program and alliance management for Amgen’s external discovery and research partnerships.

  • Coordinate Corporate Scientific Advisory Boards (SABs) and manage external outreach activities.

  • Strengthen collaboration between Amgen and global research communities.

3. R&D Resource Management

  • Support cross-functional resource tracking, ensuring supply-demand balance.

  • Contribute to resource forecasting and business case evaluation for R&D projects.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 18 years or older.

  • Bachelor’s degree completed from an accredited institution.

  • Currently enrolled in one of the following programs:

    • MBA (for MBA internship)

    • Master’s (for Master’s internship)

    • PharmD (for PharmD internship)

    • Ph.D. (for PhD internship)

  • Completion of first year of program prior to internship start.

  • Must return to school after internship.

  • Must not be employed during internship period.

  • Must be located in the U.S. and authorized to work for the program duration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree focus in Business, Finance, Management Sciences, Life Sciences, or Engineering.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organization and multitasking capabilities.

  • Proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and evolving priorities.

  • Foundational understanding of project management, business processes, or change management is a plus.
