Global Medical Affairs Leader

Novartis seeks an experienced Global Medical Affairs Leader to oversee medical strategies for renal priority programs. This position drives innovative evidence generation, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and early lifecycle development. The ideal candidate will leverage deep medical expertise to address complex regulatory challenges, advance therapeutic innovations, and ensure compliance with medical quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development:
    • Lead medical affairs strategy for renal programs, focusing on evidence generation, population health research, and innovative partnerships.
    • Align Integrated Evidence Plans (IEPs) with business priorities, emphasizing early development and clinical practice impact.
  • Collaboration and Leadership:
    • Act as a strategic partner to NIBR, Development, International Medical Affairs, and US Medical Affairs.
    • Represent GMA in internal and external forums, including partnerships, regulatory discussions, and investment reviews.
  • Program Execution:
    • Oversee development of medical education, MSL strategy, scientific publications, and expert network building.
    • Ensure timely and cost-effective execution of global medical strategies.
  • Patient Access:
    • Support reimbursement and market-access strategies, ensuring patient access programs comply with regulations.
    • Represent the patient’s perspective, considering factors influencing informed decision-making.
  • Evidence Generation and Compliance:
    • Drive innovative evidence-generation initiatives, including non-interventional and real-world evidence studies.
    • Ensure all activities comply with company guidelines, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lifecycle Management:
    • Provide proactive input on therapeutic opportunities and asset lifecycle management.
    • Prepare SRC submissions and manage financial tracking for renal portfolio activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education:
    • MD (preferred), PhD, or PharmD in Health Sciences; specialist qualification in the discipline is advantageous.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years in Medical Affairs and/or Clinical Development in the pharmaceutical industry.
    • Demonstrated expertise in early asset lifecycle management, pre-launch, and launch activities.
    • Rare disease or renal experience (e.g., IgA Nephropathy) strongly preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strategic thinker with experience influencing diverse stakeholders in a matrix organization.
    • Strong understanding of healthcare systems, unmet medical needs, and innovative evidence solutions.
    • Proven track record of delivering high-quality medical affairs projects.
    • Expertise in GCP, clinical methodology, protocol design, and regulatory requirements.
  • Languages:
    • Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional languages are an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Renal and rare disease experience, particularly with IgA Nephropathy.
  • Clinical trial research experience in pharmaceutical or academic settings.
  • Successful development of scalable, innovative processes.
