Job Summary

Sun Pharma is seeking a highly skilled Manager 2 – Biotechnology to lead the downstream operations within the Biological Drug Substance Unit. The role requires extensive expertise in large molecule recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies, downstream process development, and GMP production.

The successful candidate will design, plan, and oversee downstream processes, ensuring timely delivery of clinical batches, mentoring team members, and optimizing purification operations for high-quality output.


Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Management: Establish and lead the downstream group, providing scientific guidance, technical expertise, and mentorship to junior scientists and associates.

  • Downstream Process Development: Develop and scale downstream processes for recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies, ensuring robust, reproducible, and compliant operations.

  • Process Operation & Scale-Up: Operate and interpret results from chromatography systems, TFF systems, and filtration setups; apply downstream scale-up principles.

  • Data Analysis & Interpretation: Analyze experimental, analytical, and process data to drive process optimization and support decision-making.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Prepare and review critical documents, including BMRs, SOPs, investigational protocols, and technical reports, ensuring regulatory and quality standards.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with R&D, QA, and manufacturing teams to support development activities and GMP batch production.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, process consistency, and quality output across downstream operations.


Required Qualifications & Experience

Educational Qualification:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related discipline

Experience:

  • 8–12 years of hands-on experience in downstream processing, recombinant protein purification, monoclonal antibody development, and GMP production

  • Proven experience in process scale-up, data analysis, and scientific documentation

  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team management capabilities

Skills & Competencies:

  • Expertise in chromatography, TFF systems, filtration, and process optimization

  • Ability to interpret analytical and process data effectively

  • Excellent documentation and regulatory compliance knowledge

  • Strategic thinking with innovation and problem-solving abilities

  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
