Inpatient Medical Coding Auditor – Remote | Cognizant
Job Summary
Cognizant is seeking a remote Inpatient Medical Coding Auditor to ensure high-quality, accurate, and compliant ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding for hospital inpatient records. This opportunity is ideal for professionals with 5+ years of facility-based coding and auditing experience and an active AHIMA certification (CCS, RHIA, or RHIT). You'll play a critical role in improving documentation, educating peers, and driving coding compliance across the healthcare spectrum.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct detailed audits of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS inpatient records for compliance and accuracy
Collaborate with physicians via structured queries to enhance documentation quality
Educate and mentor clients on best practices in coding, billing, and compliance
Perform peer reviews and ensure a minimum coding accuracy rate of 98%
Stay current on regulatory changes and contribute to special audits and improvement initiatives
Utilize tools like 3M encoder to support precise coding and reporting
Required Skills & Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of facility-based inpatient coding and auditing experience
High school diploma required; ICD-10 Certified Trainer/Ambassador preferred
Valid AHIMA credential: CCS, RHIA, or RHIT (mandatory)
Knowledge of federal, state, and payer regulations
Proficiency in 3M encoder, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong ability to interpret medical record documentation and reports
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to multitask and work independently in a remote setting
