Job Description
Petco is seeking a Hospital Veterinarian II for their Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospitals. As a veterinarian at Petco, you'll be an essential part of a supportive team committed to delivering excellent patient care. You'll be responsible for performing physical exams, diagnosing and treating diseases, providing preventive care, and performing both routine and complex surgical and dental procedures. In addition, you'll mentor and guide the team while ensuring that patients receive the highest quality care.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform physical examinations, diagnose diseases, and provide preventive care.
  • Develop diagnostic plans and treatments based on exam results.
  • Perform surgeries including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratories, and mass removals.
  • Perform complex dental procedures including extractions and oral surgeries.
  • Develop treatment plans for hospitalized patients and ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in rounds and knowledge sharing with the team to improve care and communication.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in accordance with practice conventions.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in shift transitions and communicate effectively with team members.
  • Help disseminate knowledge to staff to improve care and communication.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the hospital.

Supervision and Collaboration

  • The veterinarian will work under the guidance of the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director.
  • They will also be expected to lead the team, ensuring high-quality care in a professional and personable manner.

Education/Experience

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
  • Active veterinary licensure in the state of employment.
  • Current DEA and Controlled Substance licenses.
  • USDA Category I accreditation or ability to complete within two months of hire.
  • Comfort with anesthesia and routine surgeries including spays, neuters, and dental procedures.

Work Environment

  • Most duties are conducted in a full-service veterinary hospital.
  • Requires bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 30 pounds as needed.
  • Significant interaction with clients and their pets.

Compensation

  • Salary range: $103,600 - $220,000 per year (subject to location and experience).
