With recent expansions in the western U.S. and South America, we are looking for a qualified Health & Safety (H&S) Program Manager to manage and enhance our H&S initiatives across our diverse and growing team.

Position Overview:

This full-time position will manage our Health & Safety (H&S) program and serve as the primary contact for a 100-person U.S. team and 50-person South American team. The H&S Manager will oversee field programs for approximately 40 field scientists working across mine sites, industrial areas, urban environments, and remote backcountry sites. This is a challenging role with opportunities for collaboration across our U.S. and South American offices.

Responsibilities:

  • H&S Program Management: Enhance and manage the H&S program in coordination with senior managers and technical teams.
  • H&S Culture: Foster and reinforce a strong safety culture within the company.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain internal H&S practices, ensure compliance with client requirements, and assist in H&S submittals (e.g., H&S Plans, Job Hazard Analyses).
  • Training: Manage H&S training, prepare and deliver training sessions, coordinate third-party providers, and maintain records.
  • Field Programs: Assist project managers with field safety including pre-field inspections, weather monitoring, and employee tracking in remote areas.
  • Inspections & Audits: Conduct field and office inspections, audits, and accident investigations.
  • Medical Surveillance & Testing: Oversee medical surveillance programs and drug/alcohol testing as required by clients.
  • Health & Safety Monitoring: Coordinate and monitor H&S compliance and documentation.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Track H&S metrics and ensure timely reporting to regulatory bodies and clients.
  • Field Vehicles & Equipment: Assist in managing company field vehicles and H&S equipment.
  • Special Projects: Complete special H&S projects and other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Technical Degree in occupational health, safety, industrial hygiene, or related field; science or engineering degree with relevant H&S experience will be considered.
  • Experience: 10+ years of H&S experience, preferably with a consulting environmental or engineering firm.
  • Certifications: Certification in one or more safety fields (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional, etc.) or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Proficiency in OSHA, MSHA, and ANSI regulations, with knowledge of California OSHA regulations preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to manage employees and promote safety culture; experience in safety requirements for working with mechanically or electrically powered equipment, remote areas, and environmental hazards is a plus.
  • Technology: Experience with safety management systems (e.g., SiteDocs, Avetta, ISNetworld) is desired.
  • Languages: Spanish language skills are useful.
  • Travel: Ability to travel for training and workshops in the U.S. and South America.
  • License: Valid driver’s license required.
