Role Overview

Lilly is seeking a highly qualified Executive Director of Product Development Statistics to lead our statistical team in supporting a broad range of nonclinical product development projects. This strategic leadership role requires expertise in statistical methodology, experimental design, and data analysis, combined with the ability to educate and communicate the value of robust statistical practices to cross-functional scientific teams including biologists, chemists, formulators, and engineers.

The Executive Director will also provide people leadership, guiding career development, performance management, and mentoring for the product development statistics team while ensuring high-quality statistical support across the portfolio.


Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff to achieve excellence.

  • Manage overall performance of direct reports and provide guidance on career development.

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and integrate new team members effectively.

  • Ensure team members are trained and aligned with organizational goals, policies, and performance expectations.

Statistical Leadership

  • Provide strategic and tactical statistical guidance across product development projects.

  • Oversee experimental design and analysis for chemical, biological, and formulation processes in batch and continuous manufacturing.

  • Support analytical chemists in method development, validation, and transfer.

  • Design and analyze stability studies to inform clinical phase and commercial specifications.

  • Develop and implement innovative statistical methods to optimize drug development and manufacturing processes.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Regulatory, Discovery, Development, Manufacturing, Medical, and Global Patient Safety teams.

Communication & Regulatory Compliance

  • Present statistical findings clearly to scientific teams, leadership, and external partners.

  • Contribute to regulatory submissions (CMC documentation) ensuring accuracy and compliance.

  • Maintain compliance with internal SOPs and external regulatory standards.

  • Communicate effectively through manuscripts, presentations, and team meetings.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or Industrial Engineering

  • Minimum 15 years of pharmaceutical industry experience

  • At least 5 years in management or leadership roles


Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Proven leadership managing large portfolios and statistical teams.

  • Expertise in experimental design, Bayesian methods, and applied statistics in pharmaceutical development.

  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities.

  • Proficiency in R and JMP statistical software.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $177,000 – $308,000 (dependent on experience, education, and location)
