Salary Range: $17.95 - $22.00/hr based on experience.

Preferred candidates with experience in Ortho, Oncology, and Neurology.

Role Overview

The Coding Specialist will review medical record documentation to accurately assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT IV codes. This position requires understanding of medical necessity, coding guidelines, and compliance with federal regulations. You will work with a variety of outpatient visit types, including ancillary, urgent care, emergency department, observation, same-day surgery, and interventional procedures.

Key duties include:

  • Review medical record documentation and assign appropriate ICD-9-CM, ICD-10, CPT IV, and HCPCS codes using 3M software.
  • Ensure that codes support the reason for the visit and medical necessity as documented by the provider.
  • Perform medical necessity checks for Medicare and other payers.
  • Monitor accounts such as Discharged Not Final Billed, failed claims, and stop bills.
  • Maintain productivity and accuracy in line with quality standards and CMS guidelines.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, system training, and required learning programs for continued professional development.

Qualifications

  • Required Certifications: AAPC or AHIMA Coding Certification (CPC-A, CPC, CCA, or CCS).
  • Experience: 1 year of previous coding experience preferred; familiarity with EPIC and coding software tools is a plus.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
