Job Summary

Optum (UnitedHealth Group) is seeking a Deputy Manager – Medical Coding in Chennai, Tamil Nadu to coordinate and supervise day‑to‑day coding operations. You will set priorities, resolve operational issues, uphold coding quality and productivity KPIs (ICD‑10‑CM/PCS, CPT‑4, DRG), and lead a high-performing team that supports providers with accurate, compliant medical coding. Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, supervise and be accountable for daily activities of the coding team.

  • Set task-level priorities, align resources, and ensure SLA/TAT, productivity, and quality targets are met.

  • Analyze and translate medical diagnoses/procedures to coding standards (ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4, DRG) in line with client and regulatory guidelines.

  • Identify and resolve operational challenges using defined processes and sound judgment.

  • Drive continuous improvement, participate in audits, and support corrective/preventive actions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate degree (life sciences/healthcare preferred, but JD allows “Graduate degree or equivalent experience”).
