Purpose:
Scientific and Clinical Experts (SEs/CEs) require in-depth and up-to-date information to treat patients, design research, and educate others. The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) program fulfills these needs through a field-based group of medical professionals with expertise in disease states, Lilly and competitive compounds, and therapeutic landscapes. MSLs facilitate scientific exchange, provide valuable insights, and inform Lilly’s research and commercialization strategies.

Responsibilities:

Scientific Knowledge:

  • Maintain deep scientific expertise within the therapeutic area.

  • Engage in scientific exchange to provide accurate, up-to-date medical and scientific information to customers.

Customer Engagement:

  • Focus on customer-facing activities, applying emotional intelligence and strategic thinking.

  • Serve as a primary interface between Lilly Medical and SEs/CEs.

  • Facilitate collaboration between SEs/CEs and Lilly internal resources as needed.

Territory Ownership:

  • Utilize strategic analysis and prioritization to manage the territory effectively.

  • Develop and implement a strategic territory plan to optimize MSL activities.

  • Collaborate with other Lilly field roles to ensure a coordinated customer experience.

Strategic Vision and Leadership:

  • Synthesize and communicate actionable customer insights to internal teams.

  • Make informed decisions and escalate issues as necessary.

  • Build and maintain internal networks while collaborating across functions.

  • Embrace change and demonstrate agility in adapting to evolving business needs.

Team Collaboration:

  • Demonstrate Team Lilly Behaviors (Include, Innovate, Accelerate, Deliver).

  • Contribute to team goals and uphold compliance with all internal and external requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD) with 2-3 years of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience.

  • Master's or bachelor's degree in health sciences (BSN, RPh, PA, NP) with 5+ years of relevant clinical, research, or industry experience.

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Additional Preferences:

  • Strong preference for experience in rheumatology.

  • Ability to travel up to 80% and work 4-6 weekends per year.

  • Proximity to a transportation hub (airport/train station).

  • Intellectual curiosity and learning agility to communicate complex scientific content.

  • Self-directed, capable of managing multiple priorities independently.

  • Advanced presentation, computer skills, and expertise in literature identification.

  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and networking skills.

  • Familiarity with health systems, academic communities, and medical education.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Anticipated wage: $145,500 - $213,400
