About the Role

Lilly is a global leader in healthcare innovation, dedicated to improving patient outcomes through scientific excellence, ethical engagement, and collaborative partnerships. As part of the Global Medical Affairs team, the Associate Director – External Engagement & Global Medical Affairs TLEE Center of Excellence will lead enterprise-wide strategies for Thought Leader (TL) and External Engagement (EE) to support global medical, clinical, and commercial objectives.

This position focuses on strengthening compliant, customer-centric engagement practices, establishing global standards, and optimizing tools, processes, and training across therapeutic areas and business units.


Key Responsibilities

Lead Global Thought Leader and External Engagement Capability

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for TL/EE standards, processes, tools, and training across global teams.

  • Lead onboarding, capability-building, and “train-the-trainer” programs for roles involved in external engagement.

  • Develop and implement global playbooks to standardize execution and enhance compliance.

  • Drive innovation to streamline engagement models, strengthen effectiveness, and support business needs across regions.

  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships with marketing, clinical development, access, corporate affairs, and health outcomes teams.

  • Collaborate with Legal, Privacy, Ethics and Compliance to steward policies and procedures for contracted external engagement.

  • Conduct benchmarking to identify best practices and share insights globally.

Drive Operational Excellence

  • Lead communication and training on global external engagement processes.

  • Support adoption and optimization of enterprise EE platforms such as H1, TL Map (through sunset 2025), Dragonfly, and others.

  • Enhance analytics, reporting, and data insights to measure external engagement impact.

  • Ensure strong onboarding, documentation processes, and governance for EE stakeholders.

  • Improve compliant TL identification, planning, tracking, and reduce administrative burden across business units.

  • Communicate and assess legal, compliance, and privacy considerations related to TL engagements.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry.

  • Authorization to work full-time in the United States (no visa sponsorship available).


Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Thought Leader engagement, field medical functions, or External Engagement roles.

  • Experience in content development, SOP creation, onboarding, and training programs.

  • Strong learning agility and proactive problem-solving abilities.

  • Proven capability to collaborate, influence, and negotiate across cross-functional teams.

  • Experience with CRM systems, documentation platforms, and business-IT interfacing.

  • Familiarity with drug development processes across all phases.

  • Demonstrated success in organizational change management.

  • Ability to work in fast-paced, global environments with cross-cultural collaboration.

  • Vendor, partner, or agency management experience.

  • Indianapolis-based preferred; relocation support available.

Compensation

Estimated Salary Range: USD $122,250 – $179,300
