The Gene Therapy team at Lilly focuses on inventing, characterizing, and advancing novel genome therapy reagents across multiple disease areas and platforms to deliver on the promise of gene therapy for patients worldwide.


🎯 Role Purpose

The Advisor – Computational Biology supports Lilly Gene Therapy Discovery and Platform Research (GTDPR) by:

  • Analyzing complex genomic datasets to support AAV vector development, capsid engineering, payload engineering, and biodistribution studies

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams including molecular biology, vector engineering, and pre-clinical development

  • Advancing innovative gene therapies from discovery through IND-enabling studies

Reports to: Executive Director – Vector Engineering and Delivery


🧠 Key Responsibilities

  • Bioinformatics Pipeline Development: Design, execute, and maintain pipelines for bulk/single-cell RNA-seq, AAV integration, vector genome sequencing, and capsid library screening

  • NGS Data Analysis: End-to-end analysis including quality control, variant calling, differential expression, and biological interpretation

  • AAV Vector Characterization: Computational methods for integration site analysis, biodistribution assessment, and tissue-/disease-specific interpretation

  • Capsid Engineering Support: Structure-function analysis and receptor binding predictions

  • Transcriptomic/Proteomic Analysis: Identify therapeutic targets and biomarkers for gene therapy applications

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Lilly Gene Therapy and broader Lilly Research Laboratories teams to meet project milestones

  • Data Communication: Present findings to internal teams and stakeholders


🎓 Basic Requirements

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or related scientific field

  • Minimum 2 years industry experience in NGS data analysis and/or structural modeling


🛠 Additional Preferences

  • Publication record in computational biology or bioinformatics methods

  • Familiarity with AAV biology, capsid engineering, and gene therapy applications

  • Strong written/verbal communication skills

  • Experience with project management and handling multiple projects

  • Experience in multidisciplinary, collaborative research environments

  • Attention to detail and commitment to reproducible research practices

  • Background in structural biology and protein engineering

  • Experience with machine learning applications in biotech and drug discovery


✈️ Travel

  • Up to 10–15% travel for conferences or training


💰 Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $156,750 – $250,800
