Job Summary
Apotex is seeking a motivated candidate for the position of Trainee – Microbiology to support microbiological testing and laboratory operations within the quality control environment. The role involves performing routine microbiological analysis for oral solid dosage forms, environmental monitoring, and water system testing while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and laboratory best practices.

The selected candidate will gain hands-on experience with microbiological techniques, laboratory instruments, and quality systems in a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
Execute sampling and analysis of water samples in accordance with established laboratory procedures.

Perform environmental monitoring activities including surface sampling, air monitoring, and microbial testing.

Conduct swab sampling and microbial testing for controlled environments and equipment.

Monitor compressed air and nitrogen gas systems for microbiological contamination.

Perform microbial limit testing for APIs, excipients, intermediates, and finished pharmaceutical products.

Operate autoclaves for sterilization and decontamination of laboratory materials and microbiological waste.

Perform Gram staining to identify recovered microorganisms during microbiological analysis.

Prepare microbiological culture media and perform growth promotion testing as per standard procedures.

Ensure all testing and laboratory activities comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and applicable regulatory guidelines.

Compile and document analytical data accurately while ensuring timely completion of assigned laboratory tasks.

Collaborate with team members to support laboratory operations and achieve departmental objectives.

Perform assigned responsibilities while adhering to Apotex corporate values including Collaboration, Courage, Perseverance, and Passion.

Required Skills and Competencies
Basic understanding of microbiological testing techniques used in pharmaceutical quality control laboratories.

Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to cGMP and microbiology laboratory practices.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work effectively within a team-oriented laboratory environment.

Familiarity with laboratory management systems such as LIMS or other electronic documentation systems will be considered an advantage.

Experience Required
This position is suitable for fresh graduates or candidates with up to 1 year of experience in microbiology laboratories within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences organizations.
