Job Summary

The Statistical Data Sciences Lead will be responsible for overseeing multiple projects of moderate complexity within the work team, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of programming and data science deliverables. This role combines hands-on programming with oversight of vendors and offshore teams while contributing to strategic planning, team mentoring, and global initiatives within Pfizer’s statistical programming organization.


Key Responsibilities

Programming & Data Science

  • Deliver up to 70% of assigned programming activities in SAS, R, or Python, supporting studies, projects, and portfolios.

  • Ensure accurate, efficient, and timely delivery of datasets and displays for clinical study reports and asset-level deliverables.

  • Maintain documentation and perform quality control (QC) checks across all programming deliverables.

  • Understand and implement standard/study/project/portfolio requirements and ensure completion of project milestones.

  • Apply data science and analytical techniques to solve business problems and guide team members on technical aspects such as programming, modeling, and algorithmic implementation.

Project & Resource Management

  • Contribute 10% of time to resourcing, project, and people management, including performance reviews, appraisals, and development planning.

  • Collaborate with department leadership to establish timelines, strategy, and resourcing for statistical programming deliverables.

  • Oversee vendor and offshore support, ensuring deliverables meet quality and compliance standards.

  • Plan for all programmed deliverables, considering data types and downstream applications.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Act as a mentor to junior team members, supporting technical and career growth.

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and lead global initiatives or projects (e.g., Submission Specialist, Application Manager).

  • Proactively communicate potential risks or issues to upper management and propose mitigation strategies.

  • Participate and contribute to department-level initiatives and cross-functional projects globally and locally.


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Life Sciences, or a related field.

Experience

  • 7–8 years of relevant experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, CRO, or regulatory environment.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in SAS, R, or Python for statistical programming and analysis.

  • Understanding of clinical data standards (CDISC, SDTM, ADaM) and regulatory submission requirements.

  • Ability to translate business problems into analytical tasks and provide actionable insights.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
