Role Overview:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will play a key role in establishing Eli Lilly as a leader in the therapeutic area(s) they represent by maintaining deep scientific knowledge and engaging with Scientific Experts (SEs). This position is field-based, with a focus on building and nurturing relationships, gathering insights, and supporting scientific and medical information needs. The MSL will bridge the gap between industry and the scientific community, facilitating scientific exchange and providing strategic input to internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Scientific Knowledge and Engagement:

  • Maintain Expert Knowledge: Continuously deepen expertise in the therapeutic area(s) represented, ensuring the ability to address complex scientific questions and stay ahead of emerging trends.
  • Customer Engagement: Engage with SEs to foster meaningful, two-way dialogues, providing unbiased, accurate, and up-to-date medical and scientific information.
  • Facilitate Collaborations: Connect SEs with relevant internal resources or Lilly business partners and explore opportunities for collaborative research or external partnerships.

2. Strategic Vision and Leadership:

  • Data Synthesis: Synthesize complex data and provide actionable insights from SE interactions to inform Lilly’s medical strategy and research.
  • Strategic Contribution: Actively contribute to the development of medical plans and strategies within the affiliate. Work cross-functionally to align on key initiatives.
  • Decision Making: Utilize strong problem-solving skills to make independent decisions or escalate as needed, ensuring a principled, data-driven approach.

3. Territory Ownership:

  • Territory Planning: Demonstrate strategic analysis, planning, and prioritization to maximize efficiency within the assigned territory.
  • Execution and Evaluation: Take responsibility for executing the territory plan, managing activities, and ensuring the achievement of goals.

4. Compliance and Professionalism:

  • Compliance: Adhere to all internal and external regulatory requirements, laws, and procedures, demonstrating sound judgment at all times.
  • Field-Based Role: The MSL is expected to travel up to 80% of the time and manage multiple priorities and projects effectively.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD) required. Candidates with a Masters or Bachelor's degree in health sciences (e.g., BSN, RPh, PA, NP) will be considered if they have 5+ years of relevant clinical, research, or industry experience.
  • Experience: 2-3 years of clinical or therapeutic area experience desired. Prior experience in a field-based medical role is highly valued.
  • Travel: Must be able to travel up to 80%, including 4-6 weekends per year.
  • Proximity: Applicants must live close to a transport hub (airport/train station).
  • Skills:
    • Strong intellectual curiosity and ability to quickly absorb and communicate complex scientific content.
    • Self-directed, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
    • Advanced presentation and computer skills, including literature identification and scientific communication.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal relationship-building skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Field-Based Experience: Previous experience in a field-based medical environment is highly valued.
  • Networking: Proven success in professional networking and mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Medical Research & Education: Familiarity with health systems, academic communities, medical research, and education is highly beneficial.
