Position Overview

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in Oncology is a field-based medical professional with deep expertise in oncology, Lilly’s product portfolio, and competitive landscape. The MSL plays a key role in facilitating scientific exchange between industry and the scientific community, influencing Lilly's strategic direction for research and commercialization. By maintaining expert knowledge and engaging with scientific leaders, the MSL helps shape the future of healthcare. This role will cover two key zones in India—West & South—and the successful candidate can be based in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, or Chennai.

Key Responsibilities

1. Scientific Expertise & Knowledge Communication

  • Maintain advanced knowledge of oncology to answer complex scientific questions and establish credibility as a trusted, unbiased resource for scientific information.
  • Continuously learn and stay updated on the latest developments in oncology, ensuring peer-credible knowledge of disease states and product-related science.

2. Customer Engagement & Support

  • Act as the primary point of contact between Lilly’s medical team and scientific experts, facilitating high-quality scientific dialogue.
  • Provide detailed and advanced product and disease state information to answer customer questions.
  • Foster relationships with scientific leaders and experts to identify opportunities for collaboration, both internally and externally.

3. Strategic Vision & Leadership

  • Synthesize complex clinical data and effectively communicate valuable insights from scientific experts to Lilly’s medical and cross-functional teams.
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to identify solutions for customer needs, collaborating with internal resources to execute those solutions.
  • Contribute actively to medical planning and strategy, ensuring alignment with Lilly’s broader strategic goals.

4. Territory Management & Accountability

  • Develop and execute strategic territory plans, prioritizing key MSL activities to maximize efficiency and impact.
  • Demonstrate strong accountability for achieving results while adhering to compliance regulations and internal processes.
  • Proactively manage multiple priorities and projects in a field-based setting, ensuring effective and timely execution of responsibilities.

Key Competencies & Qualifications

  • Education: Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, or PhD in a medically related field) required, with 2-3 years of relevant clinical or therapeutic experience in oncology or a related area. Candidates with a Master's or Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of clinical, research, or industry experience in a relevant therapeutic area will also be considered.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience as an MSL or in a field-based role engaging with scientific experts and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) is highly desirable.
    • Strong knowledge of oncology and experience in clinical or therapeutic research are essential.
  • Skills:
    • Intellectual curiosity with the ability to absorb and communicate large amounts of scientific information in a clear and concise manner.
    • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, including emotional intelligence to build and maintain professional relationships.
    • Advanced presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written, with proficiency in literature identification and review.
    • Ability to work autonomously, managing multiple priorities and projects effectively in a field-based environment.
    • Proficient in using electronic tools for field communication and data management.

Additional Requirements

  • Location Flexibility: The successful candidate can be based in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, or Chennai, covering the West & South regions of India.
  • Travel: Frequent travel within assigned territories is expected.
