Job Overview

The Senior Medical Editor – Publication QC is responsible for ensuring the quality, accuracy, and regulatory compliance of scientific and clinical publications. This role provides advanced editorial expertise across manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and other publication deliverables while leading quality control (QC) activities, mentoring editors, and supporting large or complex medical writing projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of FDA, EMA, and global regulatory and publication guidelines

  • Ensure all publication deliverables meet sponsor, journal, and regulatory standards

  • Represent the Medical Editing function within Medical Writing teams and cross-functional project groups

  • Monitor project timelines and budgets, escalating risks to deliverables as needed

  • Serve as editorial lead on complex or large publication projects, including scheduling and leading internal project meetings

  • Provide technical editorial guidance to medical writers, editors, and study teams on publication standards and data integrity

  • Train and mentor medical editing staff and contribute to capability development within the global Medical Writing team

  • Copyedit scientific documents for grammar, style, clarity, and consistency using AMA and sponsor-specific style guides

  • Conduct thorough data integrity reviews to ensure scientific accuracy and internal consistency

  • Support compilation and publishing of medical writing deliverables as required

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including development of editorial tools, workflows, and SOP updates

  • Manage assigned projects in accordance with medical writing SOPs, client standards, timelines, and budgets

  • Provide regular feedback to Lead Medical Writers and Project Managers on editorial progress


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, English, or a related discipline

  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in medical editing or publication quality control

  • Proven expertise in editing scientific publications, including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and clinical documents

  • Strong knowledge of global regulatory and publication standards (FDA, EMA, ICMJE, AMA)

  • Demonstrated experience performing data integrity and quality reviews for scientific content

  • Prior experience leading or mentoring editorial teams on complex deliverables

  • Excellent command of English grammar, scientific style, and editorial best practices

  • Strong project management, organizational, and stakeholder communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting strict timelines
