Position Summary:

The Senior Medical Editor is responsible for ensuring high-quality medical writing and editing across a variety of documents. This role involves working closely with medical writers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to ensure documents meet regulatory, industry, and client standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Editorial Leadership:

    • Maintain familiarity with FDA, EU, and other relevant guidelines to ensure compliance with sponsor and regulatory requirements.
    • Represent the editorial team in Medical Writing, study teams, and cross-departmental projects.
  • Project Management:

    • Monitor timelines and budgets for assigned projects, notifying appropriate stakeholders if deliverables are at risk.
    • Lead complex medical writing projects, including scheduling meetings, organizing project-specific requirements, and distributing information to the editorial team.
    • Provide feedback on the editorial process and progress of documents.
  • Medical Writing & Editing:

    • Copyedit documents following the AMA style guide or custom style guidelines, ensuring proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style.
    • Conduct data integrity reviews to ensure document accuracy.
    • Compile and publish medical writing deliverables, ensuring quality control of clinical documents.
  • Training & Mentorship:

    • Provide technical support and expertise, and mentor medical writing and editing staff.
    • Advise medical writers and teams on data integrity, compilation, publishing, and editorial standards.
  • Process Improvement:

    • Contribute to the development and revision of internal policies and procedures for editorial work.
    • Develop process improvement tools to enhance efficiency in document preparation and review.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, clinical sciences, English/journalism, or equivalent publishing experience.
  • Experience:

    • Significant experience in publishing, preferably with Adobe Acrobat or other markup languages.
    • Experience with ISIToolbox preferred.
    • Expertise in medical editing, including familiarity with the AMA style guide.
  • Skills:

    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Excellent attention to detail, with strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Strong grammatical, written, and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments with deadlines.
    • Knowledge of FDA and EU requirements, ICH regulations, and ISO standards is preferred.
