Job Overview:
The Senior Manager – Regional Medical Affairs (RMA) will lead the functional management of the RMA team within the Business Unit (BU). This role ensures the delivery of high-quality scientific and medical expertise, strengthens team capabilities, and drives integration with cross-functional stakeholders including Marketing, Sales, and Medical Affairs teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pharmaceutical medical affairs, leadership experience, and expertise in managing regional teams while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Functional Management:

  • Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of RMAs within the Business Unit.

  • Build a cohesive and high-performing RMA team; design, implement, and evaluate training programs to maintain scientific and medical excellence.

  • Oversee performance management, career development, and leadership growth of RMAs through goal setting, monitoring, and feedback.

  • Ensure consistency and quality of scientific knowledge and medical information delivered by RMAs.

  • Develop strategies and processes that enhance delivery of scientific services to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ensure field-based medical/scientific functions comply with local regulations and company SOPs.

  • Support talent retention, development plans, and cross-functional or cross-location rotations as required.

  • Communicate any adverse events (ADR/AE) received to the Pharmacovigilance team.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Ensure seamless integration of the RMA team with Marketing and Medical Affairs teams.

  • Prioritize and manage field-based project responsibilities, balancing resources between Medical Affairs and Marketing initiatives.

  • Facilitate knowledge sharing with internal stakeholders regarding key opinion leader (KOL) insights and perspectives on Abbott’s products and relevant disease states.

  • Identify operational gaps, resolve therapeutic area needs, and share best practices with Medical Affairs and Marketing teams.

  • Align RMA staffing to support initiatives such as Advisory Boards, Medical Booths, and Educational Events.

  • Collaborate with Sales leadership to optimize field resources in achieving therapeutic goals while ensuring compliance.

  • Drive development and execution of Medico-Marketing strategies.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Represent the company at scientific meetings to stay updated on research and therapeutic trends.

  • Present monthly updates to cross-functional teams and contribute to Medical Affairs Internal Management Team meetings.

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with opinion leaders in key therapeutic areas.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design effective clinical strategies for brand management.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, or related field; MD/PharmD preferred.

  • 8–12 years of experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Affairs, or pharmaceutical industry with at least 3 years in a leadership/managerial role.

  • Proven experience in managing regional teams and implementing medical strategies in compliance with local and international regulations.

  • Strong knowledge of therapeutic areas, scientific communication, and KOL engagement.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
