Role Overview
The Senior Manager – Regional Medical Affairs (RMA) is responsible for leading and managing the Regional Medical Advisor (RMA) team within the Business Unit (BU). This leadership role focuses on strengthening medical strategy execution, enhancing scientific engagement, ensuring regulatory compliance, and aligning medico-marketing initiatives with corporate objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Functional Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of RMAs within the Business Unit.

  • Build and develop a high-performing, cohesive RMA team focused on scientific excellence.

  • Drive performance management through objective setting, execution tracking, and continuous development.

  • Ensure consistency and depth of scientific and medical knowledge across the RMA team.

  • Deliver structured training programs to maintain medical and regulatory competency.

  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and talent development planning including cross-functional rotations.

  • Ensure timely reporting of complaints, ADRs, and adverse events (AEs) to the Pharmacovigilance (PV) team.

Medical Strategy & Compliance Oversight

  • Develop and implement processes to optimize delivery of scientific services to internal stakeholders and external customers.

  • Ensure compliance with local regulatory guidelines, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and Abbott SOPs.

  • Maintain consistency in field-based medical and scientific engagement standards.

  • Support medico-marketing strategy development and compliant execution.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Ensure effective integration of the RMA team with Medical Affairs Team (MAT) and Marketing functions.

  • Prioritize medical resources to support field-based initiatives including Advisory Boards, educational programs, and scientific events.

  • Collaborate with sales leadership to align therapeutic goals in a compliant manner.

  • Identify operational needs within therapeutic areas and implement best practices across MA and Marketing teams.

  • Provide insights on key opinion leader (KOL) perspectives related to therapeutic areas and company products.

  • Partner cross-functionally to develop brand-on-brand clinical strategies.

Scientific Engagement & Governance

  • Attend national and international scientific meetings to remain updated on therapeutic advancements.

  • Present monthly updates and business reviews to internal stakeholders and Medical Affairs leadership teams.

  • Establish and maintain strategic engagement with opinion leaders in key therapeutic areas.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, or related healthcare discipline required.

  • Advanced degree (MD, PharmD, MBA, or equivalent) preferred.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 8–12 years of experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical industry.

  • At least 3–5 years of team management or regional medical leadership experience.

  • Strong exposure to medico-marketing collaboration, KOL management, and regulatory compliance.

  • Demonstrated experience in talent development and cross-functional leadership.
