Position Summary

The Senior Director, Global Program Management, Obesity plays a central leadership role within Amgen’s Commercialization, Program & Portfolio Management Office (CMZ).
This role drives the strategic planning and delivery of global product programs, partnering closely with the Product Team Lead (PTL) and reporting directly to the Executive Director of Program Management.
The position requires high-level collaboration with internal cross-functional teams, external partners, and regional affiliates to ensure successful global commercialization and program execution.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight

  • Lead and deliver comprehensive global strategic plans for Amgen’s product portfolio in alignment with corporate objectives.

  • Partner with the PTL to execute vision, manage cross-functional collaboration, and ensure program excellence.

  • Serve as the COO of the Product Team (PT) and all Work Package Teams (WPTs), including EGT, PDT, IBT, and subteams.

  • Oversee project plans, timelines, risk assessments, and communication strategies.

Stakeholder Engagement & Governance

  • Maintain proactive engagement with internal and external partners, including one-on-one strategic discussions.

  • Communicate program status and key decisions with the CMZ Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

  • Present program deliverables and updates to executive governance bodies (TAG and PG).

  • Ensure continuous alignment between global and regional priorities.

Operational Excellence

  • Monitor program progress, competitive landscape, and value drivers to identify risks and improvement opportunities.

  • Resolve program challenges swiftly, fostering a culture of responsiveness and accountability.

  • Drive process optimization and ensure adherence to governance standards.

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruit, manage, and coach Program Management staff (PMs and SPMs).

  • Provide mentoring on team dynamics, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Support staff career development, performance reviews, and succession planning.


Key Activities

  • Facilitate and oversee major strategic program deliverables.

  • Guide Product Team members on interdependencies, presentations, and decision-making processes.

  • Contribute content for governance meetings and ensure executive-level presentation quality.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to achieve program milestones and launch readiness.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree and 5 years of experience in Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, or Healthcare-related field
    OR

  • Master’s degree and 9 years of experience in Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, or Healthcare-related field
    OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 11 years of relevant experience
    AND

  • Minimum 5 years of direct people management or team leadership experience (may overlap with technical experience)


Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years in the Biotechnology or Pharmaceutical industry, with expertise across Research, Clinical, Manufacturing, Regulatory, and Commercial functions.

  • Proven experience leading cross-functional drug development teams and managing large, complex global programs.

  • PMP certification or advanced project management skills (tools, methodologies, and frameworks).

  • Strong staff management, coaching, and performance leadership abilities.

  • Experience in late-stage development, submissions, and product launches.

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills; ability to influence without direct authority.

  • High degree of strategic thinking, foresight, and problem-solving.

  • Proficiency in executive-level presentation and stakeholder communication.
