About the Role

Piramal Pharma Solutions (PPS), a leading global Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), is seeking a Research Scientist – Synthesis to join its Navi Mumbai team. This role is ideal for a chemist with a strong background in organic synthesis and process development, responsible for designing novel synthetic routes, optimizing lab-scale reactions, and supporting process scale-up from laboratory to manufacturing.

As part of a global team with operations in North America, Europe, and Asia, you will contribute to cutting-edge pharmaceutical development, ensuring regulatory compliance and high-quality outcomes for APIs and intermediates.

Key Responsibilities

Route Design & Development

  • Develop innovative and non-infringing synthetic routes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and key intermediates.

  • Evaluate literature and patent landscape to ensure synthetic feasibility and freedom to operate.

Process Optimization

  • Conduct laboratory-scale synthesis and optimize reaction conditions for yield, purity, and scalability.

  • Support scale-up activities from lab to kilo-lab and plant levels.

Analytical & Regulatory Support

  • Coordinate with Analytical R&D for impurity profiling, characterization, and method support.

  • Assist in preparing technical data for regulatory submissions such as DMFs, ANDAs, and other filings.

Technology Transfer

  • Prepare comprehensive process development reports and facilitate transfer of technology to manufacturing sites.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all laboratory activities comply with EHS and GMP guidelines.

  • Maintain accurate lab records, MSDS, reaction logs, and documentation for regulatory purposes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • MSc in Organic Chemistry is required; Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry is a strong advantage.

  • Demonstrated experience in synthetic route design, process optimization, and scale-up in a pharmaceutical or CDMO environment is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, GMP, and lab safety protocols.

Skills & Competencies

  • Expertise in organic synthesis, reaction optimization, and chemical characterization techniques.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.

  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams and global stakeholders.

  • Ability to maintain meticulous laboratory records and adhere to regulatory standards.
