Position Summary

Novartis is seeking an accomplished Regional Medical Lead to oversee and implement medical account strategies across priority academic institutions and research networks. This remote, field-based role focuses on driving scientific engagement, strengthening medical partnerships, and delivering strategic initiatives that support innovation across the Novartis portfolio.

The Regional Medical Lead will guide scientific collaborations, enhance research opportunities, develop institution-specific strategies, and improve population health impact through optimized medical engagement.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Medical Leadership

  • Develop enterprise-level medical strategies for priority institutions and research networks in collaboration with cross-functional medical and customer engagement teams.

  • Provide regular updates on medical activities, resource needs, and strategic opportunities within assigned accounts.

  • Lead strategic medical initiatives aligned with regional and national priorities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Customer Engagement teams, Medical Franchise Heads, Medical Science Teams, and Clinical Sciences to align institutional partnerships and research opportunities with medical strategy.

  • Act as the primary One Novartis medical lead, ensuring integrated stakeholder engagement across internal functions—including USMA, GDD, TCO, and BR.

Scientific Engagement & Research Development

  • Strengthen the Novartis research footprint within institutions by supporting compliant execution of sponsored studies, IITs, collaborations, and evidence-generation programs.

  • Build and nurture relationships with C-Suite and Population Health Decision Makers (PHDMs) at key academic centers.

  • Identify non-brand specific opportunities and develop tailored medical initiatives based on institutional insights.

Medical Account Management

  • Develop long-term medical engagement plans that support innovation, institutional goals, and the Novartis portfolio value proposition.

  • Partner with commercial account leads in a compliant manner to align medical engagement strategies.

  • Support execution of regional enterprise-level medical plans and ensure high-quality delivery of medical activities.


Required Experience and Qualifications

Education

  • Advanced degree required.

  • Doctoral or medical degree preferred (MD, PharmD, PhD or equivalent).

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of pharmaceutical experience in medical affairs, research, or clinical development.

  • Minimum 10 years of scientific expertise in Oncology, Immunology, Cardiovascular, Renal, or Neuroscience.

  • Strong knowledge of drug development, clinical research, and the US healthcare landscape.

Technical and Leadership Skills

  • Proven ability to lead enterprise-level strategies and engage at the C-Suite level.

  • Demonstrated success working in matrix organizations with strong cross-functional collaboration.

  • Experience leading initiatives within academic institutions and managing medical stakeholder relationships.

  • Strong communication skills, problem-solving ability, and adaptability in evolving healthcare environments.

  • Thorough understanding of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, PhRMA, and industry compliance requirements.

  • Deep understanding of Population Health decision-making, guidelines, pathways, and emerging healthcare trends.


Compensation and Benefits

  • Expected annual salary range: USD 204,400 – USD 379,600 (subject to market adjustments).

  • Total compensation may include:

    • Sign-on bonus

    • 401(k) eligibility

  • Salary and benefits depend on experience, location, and skills.
