Portfolio Strategy Director – Neuroscience | Cambridge, MA | Novartis

Job Summary

Novartis is seeking a dynamic and experienced Portfolio Strategy Director to join its Biomedical Research division in Cambridge, MA. This hybrid role is a key leadership opportunity in neuroscience portfolio strategy, overseeing critical project planning from preclinical research to clinical execution and product launch. Ideal for strategic thinkers with strong scientific and cross-functional expertise in biopharma R&D, this role offers the chance to make a lasting impact on the future of neuroscience therapeutics.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and lead portfolio prioritization, resource allocation, and risk management processes.

  • Provide analytics and strategic portfolio reports to executive committees.

  • Oversee lifecycle planning, academic partnerships, and early strategic alliances.

  • Guide early R&D project teams on probability-of-success and portfolio entry decisions.

  • Develop systems to enhance dynamic and scalable portfolio management.

  • Monitor and report on portfolio progress; address key risks and alignment gaps.

  • Make final operational decisions to ensure goal achievement across the organization.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience in biotech/pharma R&D.

  • Experience in global cross-functional teams and strategic planning.

  • Proficiency in project and operations management, executive-level communications.

  • Background in critical negotiations and partnering strategy.

  • Experience in neurological or neuromuscular disorders is preferred.


Salary & Compensation

  • Base Salary Range: $185,000 – $344,000 (USD) per year

  • Includes performance-based cash incentive and potential annual equity awards

  • Final salary will be based on experience, skills, and internal benchmarking
