Position: Outpatient Same Day Surgery Facility Medical Coder

Position Overview:
The Outpatient Same Day Surgery Facility Medical Coder is responsible for coding and abstracting patient records for outpatient surgical cases using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and CPS coding systems. This role involves precise code assignment following a comprehensive review of each medical record, with consistent performance in productivity and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform coding and abstracting for outpatient same-day surgical records based on UHDDS guidelines.
  • Assign principal and additional diagnoses and procedures, ensuring DRG accuracy.
  • Use AQuity applications to enter charts coded in real-time and solicit physician clarification for ambiguous documentation.
  • Participate in coding education, industry forums, and Coding Roundtables to share knowledge and current coding topics.
  • Maintain coding credentials and complete assigned educational modules.
  • Ensure a high level of coding accuracy, productivity, and professional communication.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of facility surgical coding experience, with knowledge of NCCI, MUE edits, Medicare Guidelines, and modifier usage.
  • Education: Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, surgical technology, and disease processes.
  • Certifications: CCS or COC required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Skills: High coding accuracy, attention to detail, and effective communication skills.

Working Environment:
Remote position requiring extended computer-based work and phone calls.
