Medical Coder – Surgery (US Healthcare | RCM)

Job Overview
We are hiring an experienced Medical Coder specializing in Surgery Coding for US Healthcare. This role requires strong expertise in coding complex surgical procedures across multiple specialties while ensuring compliance with CMS guidelines, payer policies, and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in minimizing claim denials, improving coding accuracy, and supporting efficient revenue cycle operations.

Experience Required
2 to 3 years of hands-on experience in surgical coding, including end-to-end coding of operative reports from scratch

Key Responsibilities
Accurately code complex surgical procedures across multiple specialties using CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding systems
Review operative reports and clinical documentation to ensure precise and compliant coding
Apply appropriate modifiers and resolve bundling issues in accordance with NCCI edits and CMS guidelines
Ensure adherence to payer-specific policies and regulatory requirements
Support denial reduction initiatives through accurate coding and documentation review
Maintain productivity and quality benchmarks aligned with organizational standards
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure efficient claim processing and compliance

Required Technical Expertise
Strong proficiency in CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, NCCI edits, and CMS guidelines
Proven ability to independently code surgical cases from operative documentation
Experience handling complex surgical claims with high accuracy and minimal denials

Core Surgical Specialties (Mandatory)
Orthopedic Surgery Coding including joint replacements, fracture repairs, arthroscopy, spine and fusion procedures
Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Coding including CABG, valve procedures, pacemaker insertions, bronchoscopy, VATS, and vascular interventions

Additional Preferred Specialties
OB-GYN Surgery Coding including cesarean sections, hysterectomies, and laparoscopic procedures
Gastrointestinal Surgery Coding including endoscopy, bowel resections, hernia repairs, bariatric and upper GI procedures

Preferred Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail
Ability to interpret complex surgical and clinical documentation
Familiarity with EHR systems and medical coding tools
Good communication and collaboration skills
Understanding of HIPAA compliance and data security standards
