Outpatient Coding Auditor – UCLA Health

Location: Los Angeles, California
Work Mode: On-site
Employment Type: Full-Time (Career Staff)
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM PST
Salary Range: $59.80 – $74.35 per hour


Job Summary:

UCLA Health is seeking a detail-oriented and compliance-driven Outpatient Coding Auditor to uphold the accuracy and integrity of outpatient coding and documentation practices. This pivotal role involves conducting internal audits, identifying coding discrepancies, and ensuring full adherence to Federal and State regulations, as well as CPT and APC billing standards. The ideal candidate will combine deep expertise in outpatient coding with strong auditing acumen to support organizational excellence and optimal reimbursement outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct departmental and cross-departmental audits of outpatient coding

  • Perform quality checks on CPT, HCPCS, and APC assignments

  • Identify and report documentation and billing inconsistencies

  • Provide targeted feedback and coaching to coders and stakeholders

  • Stay current with evolving CMS, OIG, and Medicare guidelines

  • Support the development and enforcement of outpatient coding policies

  • Partner with interdisciplinary teams to resolve coding-related queries

  • Maintain audit documentation and assist in external regulatory reviews


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • AHIMA or AAPC certification (e.g., RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC)

  • In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and APC guidelines

  • Strong understanding of outpatient hospital coding and compliance standards

  • Experience with coding auditing tools and electronic health record (EHR) systems

  • Familiarity with CMS, OIG, and third-party payer billing policies

  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills

  • At least 3–5 years of outpatient coding and auditing experience preferred
