Position Overview

The Ortho Scribe plays a vital role in supporting physicians by accurately documenting patient-provider interactions in real-time. This position requires a detail-oriented, fast-paced individual with a strong understanding of medical terminology and experience in orthopedic settings.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Documentation:

    • Record details of the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, past medical history, social history, and risk factors.
    • Input physical exam details, including pertinent positives, negatives, and abnormalities, as directed by the provider.
    • Document assessments and plans as provided by the physician.
  2. Support for Orders and Results:

    • Assist providers with submitting orders and following up on results.
    • Gather and organize laboratory results, radiology reports, and requested medical records.
  3. Administrative Support:

    • Maintain an organized and clean work area.
    • Participate in equipment maintenance.
    • Answer phones and relay messages from the provider (without giving medical advice).
  4. Adherence to Protocols:

    • Ensure compliance with all privacy considerations and clinic protocols.
    • Cannot communicate medical information or care plans to patients; this remains the provider's responsibility.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of orthopedic experience required.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and accepted abbreviations.
  • Ability to record physical exam processes accurately.
  • Strong computer proficiency with quick adaptability to new systems.
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage patient care and flow.

Physical & Mental Demands:

  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and critical thinking.
  • Attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

  • Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and chemical hazards.
  • Repetitive motion tasks involving keyboards.
