Position Overview

The Ortho Scribe plays a vital role in supporting physicians by accurately documenting patient-provider interactions in real-time. This position requires a detail-oriented, fast-paced individual with a strong understanding of medical terminology and experience in orthopedic settings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Documentation:
- Record details of the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, past medical history, social history, and risk factors.
- Input physical exam details, including pertinent positives, negatives, and abnormalities, as directed by the provider.
- Document assessments and plans as provided by the physician.
Support for Orders and Results:
- Assist providers with submitting orders and following up on results.
- Gather and organize laboratory results, radiology reports, and requested medical records.
Administrative Support:
- Maintain an organized and clean work area.
- Participate in equipment maintenance.
- Answer phones and relay messages from the provider (without giving medical advice).
Adherence to Protocols:
- Ensure compliance with all privacy considerations and clinic protocols.
- Cannot communicate medical information or care plans to patients; this remains the provider's responsibility.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum of 1 year of orthopedic experience required.

Skills & Competencies:

Working knowledge of medical terminology and accepted abbreviations.
Ability to record physical exam processes accurately.
Strong computer proficiency with quick adaptability to new systems.
High-level verbal and written communication skills.
Exceptional organizational skills to manage patient care and flow.

Physical & Mental Demands:

Ability to stand or walk for long periods.
Strong multitasking abilities and critical thinking.
Attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and chemical hazards.
Repetitive motion tasks involving keyboards.
