About the Role:
Optum is hiring an experienced Assistant Manager – Medical Coding to lead a team of certified coders and ensure the highest quality and productivity in medical coding operations. This role requires strong leadership, operational planning, and performance management to enhance both team outcomes and client satisfaction. You will contribute to developing a culture of excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and support a team of 25–30 certified coders.

  • Oversee all aspects of performance management including timeliness, quality, and productivity.

  • Train, coach, and discipline team members while fostering a safe, secure, and legally compliant work environment.

  • Analyze quality metrics and customer feedback to improve service delivery.

  • Monitor job results, coordinate operational systems and policies, and enforce productivity standards.

  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities based on coding trends and quality outcomes.

  • Drive team engagement by aligning team efforts with the company’s vision, empowering staff based on their strengths, and providing actionable feedback.

  • Stay updated with professional and technical developments through workshops, industry literature, and networking.

  • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, team assignments, and flexible work requirements as mandated by business needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate in any discipline.

  • Certified Coder from AAPC or AHIMA.

  • 2+ years of experience as a Team Lead or Assistant Manager in a medical coding environment.

  • Proven experience managing a team of at least 15 coders.

  • Strong background in performance management, coaching, supervision, and quality assurance.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
