Position Overview

Abbott is seeking a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Regional Director to lead a field-based MSL team across the U.S. West region. This senior leadership role serves as the medical and scientific voice for Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) products, providing expert guidance to healthcare providers, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and external stakeholders.

The MSL Regional Director ensures scientific credibility, fosters collaborative research and educational initiatives, and supports the U.S. commercial team with evidence-based medical insights. Reporting to the National Director, MSL, this role is pivotal in shaping the strategic vision and execution of MSL activities across the region.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific and medical leadership to the regional MSL team, ensuring high-quality engagement with key thought leaders and external experts.

  • Build and maintain a strong medical and scientific presence for ADC at academic centers, supporting research, publications, and educational programs.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with commercial and field leadership teams while maintaining functional independence.

  • Serve as the primary contact for thought leaders, healthcare providers, and healthcare organizations in the assigned region, delivering credible scientific presentations and responding to unsolicited medical inquiries.

  • Oversee identification and engagement of KOLs for advisory roles, consultant activities, and scientific events.

  • Attend and represent Abbott at national and regional scientific conferences, managing MSL staffing for medical affairs sections of exhibit booths.

  • Ensure compliance with local and national laws, regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, and company policies for all MSL activities.

  • Support the MSL team with training, development, and timely completion of required programs.

  • Collaborate with Medical Outcomes Managers and the U.S. Medical Director to support Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) and strategic initiatives.

  • Report to the National U.S. MSL Director with updates on team performance, scientific engagement, and regional priorities.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field (required). Advanced degree (Pharmacy, Nutrition, Nursing, PA, or Ph.D.) preferred.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the health sciences industry, including at least 2 years in people management.

  • Proven experience in medical and scientific engagement, clinical education, and field-based leadership.

  • Strong presentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Ability to travel as needed to support field-based initiatives and conferences.
