Job Overview

Optum, a global leader in healthcare and technology-enabled care services, is seeking a Medical Receptionist for its Family Practice division in Worcester, MA. This role is central to ensuring smooth clinic operations, delivering exceptional administrative support, and maintaining a high standard of patient service. Candidates with strong communication, organizational skills and a commitment to patient-centered care will excel in this position.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison and patient advocate by coordinating with the care team including Providers, Nurses and Medical Assistants

  • Verify patient insurance coverage, eligibility and maintain accurate records through the digital patient registration/scheduling system

  • Manage patient-related calls using the department’s work queue, adhering to communication and service standards

  • Update and maintain patient information in electronic medical records (EMR)

  • Coordinate patient visits, provider schedules and medical procedures

  • Ensure all required insurance authorizations are secured and communicate coverage details to patients

  • Address patient queries related to scheduling, billing and service concerns

  • Support additional administrative tasks as assigned


Work Schedule

  • Monday to Friday

  • 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (final schedule will be confirmed with the manager)

  • Location: 5 Neponset Street, 3rd Floor, Worcester, MA 01606

  • Department: Adult Medicine and Family Practice


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Minimum 1 year of customer service experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience managing professional phone communication

  • Ability to work full-time (38.75 hours per week), Monday–Friday


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using EPIC or other EMR systems

  • Strong multitasking and time-management abilities


Experience Level

  • 1–3 years of experience in administrative support, medical office operations, customer service or related healthcare delivery roles


Compensation and Benefits

Pay is determined by several factors including market location, education, experience and certifications.

  • Hourly Range: USD 16.00 – USD 27.69 (based on full-time employment)
