Job Overview

Novo Nordisk is seeking an experienced Medical Liaison – Obesity & Liver Health to join its Field Medical Affairs team within the Clinical, Medical and Regulatory (CMR) organization. This role is responsible for advancing scientific exchange, medical education, and clinical collaboration across the South Central US region, with a strong focus on obesity, liver health, and metabolic disease management.

The Medical Liaison serves as a key scientific partner to healthcare professionals, academic institutions, and healthcare systems, ensuring the appropriate and compliant exchange of clinical and scientific information related to Novo Nordisk products and research initiatives.

The Clinical, Medical and Regulatory (CMR) department at Novo Nordisk is a highly collaborative, patient-focused organization that supports medical education, regulatory strategy, clinical research, and real-world evidence generation. CMR plays a critical role in advancing innovation, supporting healthcare professionals, and improving patient outcomes worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Scientific Engagement & Medical Affairs

  • Build and maintain strong scientific relationships with healthcare professionals, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and integrated health networks

  • Deliver accurate, evidence-based scientific and clinical information on Novo Nordisk products and disease areas

  • Support medical education initiatives including workshops, roundtables, advisory boards, and scientific forums

  • Act as a scientific liaison between Novo Nordisk and external stakeholders to facilitate meaningful scientific exchange

Field-Based Clinical & Strategic Support

  • Collaborate with Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) teams to communicate scientific value propositions to key decision-makers and formulary stakeholders

  • Support clinical trial activities by identifying potential sites, facilitating investigator engagement, and assisting with study execution and publication support

  • Provide scientific input to internal partners across Medical, Sales, Marketing, Market Access, and Government Affairs functions

  • Develop and execute territory and account medical plans aligned with regional and national strategies

Cross-Functional & Account Collaboration

  • Coordinate system-wide clinical education initiatives within integrated healthcare networks (IHNs)

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to support formulary access discussions and scientific education for executive and medical leadership

  • Deliver approved scientific presentations, including formulary and clinical updates, as requested

Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate documentation of all field activities within CRM systems (e.g., Veeva) and expense tools (e.g., Concur)

  • Ensure full compliance with company policies, SOPs, and regulatory requirements

  • Provide regular reporting on scientific activities, territory insights, and budget utilization

  • Maintain operational oversight of regional business activities and assigned budgets

Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel 50–75% overnight within the assigned territory

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and meet Novo Nordisk motor vehicle requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Doctoral degree required (MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent)

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare system, or managed care environment

  • Relevant clinical and therapeutic experience required; obesity, liver health, metabolic disease, or diabetes experience strongly preferred

  • Strong understanding of formulary processes, healthcare systems, and payer environments

  • Demonstrated business acumen and ability to apply scientific insights in real-world healthcare settings

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
